The Department of Technical Education is a department within the Technical Education Division. It offers service courses for students majoring in other departments of the division. Courses of Instruction 3. Industrial Orientation.—The industrial environment with emphasis on development of effective study methods and habits and on proper preparation for entrance into the selected vocation. A (1). Staff 8. Basic Drafting—A basic course in drafting to include the use and care of instruments, lettering, geometrical construction, sketching, shape and size description, dimensioning, multiview drawings, and sectional views. Two laboratories. A WS(2). Staff 9. Basic Drafting Continued—A continuation of Technical Education 8 and to include auxiliary views, revolutions, threads and fasteners, working drawings, pictorial drawings, charts, and graphs. General Shop Mathematics—Measurements, common and decimal fractions, square root, surfaces, columns, capacities, etc. Introduction to principles of algebra including simple linear equations with applications in the technical field. For pre-college students. Two to four lectures. Su (2-4). Staff 1. Shop Mathematics—Measurements, common and decimal fractions, square root, surfaces, volumes, capacities. Prin ciples of algebra including simple linear equations with applications in the technical field. Four lectures. A W S (4). Staff 2. Applied Geometry—Geometric relationships; applications of geometric figures; theorems and constructions. Three lectures. A W S (3). Staff 13. Applied Algebra—Fundamentals of algebra; addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of algebraic expressions; signs, symbols, exponents, parentheses, special products and factoring, fractions, and equations, first degree in one unknown, literal, fractional, radical, and exponential. Prerequisite : Technical Ed. 1 or equivalent. Five lectures. A W S (5). Staff 14. Applied Algebra—Aids to mathematical solutions such as powers of ten, slide rule nomograms; special products, factoring, fractions, linear equations, simultaneous linear equations, quadratic equations, determinants of 2nd and 3rd degree, radicals and exponents, vectors, vector algebra, complex numbers. Prerequisite: Technical Ed. 13 or equivalent. Five lectures. AWS (5). Staff 15. Applied Trigonometry—Angles, natural functions and their graphs, identities, functions of two angles and related formulas, logarithms, solutions of triangles, complex numbers, inverse functions. Prerequisite: Technical Ed. 13 or equivalent. Five lectures. W S (5). Staff 16. Applied Analytical Geometry—Functional notation and equations, cartesian coordinates, polar coordinates, straight line, circle, parabola, ellipse, graphing equations, theory of equations, partial fractions, and practical applications. Prerequisite: Technical Ed. 14 or equivalent. Five lectures. S (5). Staff 140. Mathematics for Electronics—Introduction to mathe- matic concepts used, with basic computer circuits. Additional studies in algebra, trigonometry, and analytical geometry. Prerequisite Tech. Ed. 16 or equivalent. Three lectures. A (3). Staff 141.
