(1). 022. Millinery—Techniques design and construction of millinery. (1). 030. Upholstery—Elementary operations of webbing, springing, stuffing, and upholstery of footstools, ottomans, and chairs. Student works on his own articles using his own materials. One 3-hour laboratory period a week (1). 031. Rug Making—New techniques of braiding and. joining rugs. Emphasis on color, selection of design, shape, and material. (1). 032. Home Furnishing and Decoration—Principles of art in the furnishing of the home and in selecting colors, carpets, window decoration, furniture, and accessories. (1). 040. Family Relationships—Interpersonal relationships within the family; discussion of basic needs, values, goals, and patterns of behavior. (1). 041. Education for Marriage and Family Living—Designed to help men and women understand attitudes and relationships in marriage and to develop an appreciation for enriched family life. Includes a study of personality and successful adjustments in marriage. (1). 042. Child Guidance—Growth and development of the child and his relationships with his family, peers, and teachers from infancy through adolescence. (1). Division of Mathematics and Physical Sciences The Division of Mathematics and Physical Sciences offers courses in the departments of General Education for Physical Sciences, Chemistry, Geology and Geography, Engineering Mathematics, Pre-Architecture and Architectural Technology, Photography, and Physics. Many courses listed in this Division will be taught in the Evening School, and in addition, the following courses may be offered: 340 GEOLOGY Courses of Instruction 061. Gemology—Physical and other properties of the minerals and rocks used as gems in jewelry or decorative pieces. (4). 062. Mineralogy for Prospectors—A course designed to acquaint prospectors, miners, hunters, and hikers with common ore minerals and their associated gangue minerals. Emphasis on simple physical and chemical tests for the identification of these minerals and on their mode of occurrence. (2). 120. Stratigraphy and Sedimentation—Origin and interrelationships of important rock units. Prerequisite: Geology 1 or 11, and 3. (5). 160. Economic Geology—Occurrence and origin of mineral deposits, both metallic and non-metallic, and the geologic principles involved. Prerequisite: Geology 1 or 11. (5). 170. Ground Water—Origin, occurrence, behavior, and use of underground water, with special emphasis on practical applications in Utah. Prerequisite: Geology 1 or 11. (5). ARCHITECTURAL TECHNOLOGY Courses of Instruction Mechanical Drawing 1. Mechanical Drawing (Elementary)—Care and use of drawing instruments, practices in proper lettering, conventional lines and symbols, geometrical constructions and beginning orthographic projections. Individual instruction. Two laboratory periods a week. (2). 2. Mechanical Drawing (Intermediate)—Advanced, orthographic projections; primary and secondary auxiliary views; revolutions, intersections, and developments; isometric and oblique projection; sections and study of working drawing. Individual instruction. Two laboratory periods a week. (2). 3. Mechanical Drawing (Advanced)—Point, line, plane, problems, length and slope of line, development and intersections of surfaces, shades and shadows. Prerequisite: Mechanical Drawing 2.
