A national majority can change the Constitution if people don't like something in it. 3. Taxes need to be protected and used only where they benefit those who pay them. 4. No. Government should not be in business to make a profit. 5. Yes, they need to follow zoning and safety guidelines. 6. The public has a big say in zoning regulations once they are passed. City government leaders should follow the zoning ordinances. 7. I hope no one is being harmed with any zoning law. 8. Zoning laws are there to help with the safety and congestion and people of the city. If people see a problem with them, they should get involved to change them. Age, 53. Marriott-Slatverville incorporated so it could set its own zoning laws, and does so with plenty of public input. 2. A citizen's first loyalty should be to the Constitution and upholding the law of the land. 3. Are there any other types of taxes? With discretion and public input, these funds should be used for the betterment of the community. 4. Cities must provide services the public sector won't provide, but shouldn't prevent competition. 5. Planning commissions don't decide how private property must be used, only how property may be used. 6. A property owner has rights right up to the property line. They have no right to devalue or degrade another property's value. 7. Zoning laws should be applied uniformly. 8. Most laws hinder someone to some degree. Government should minimize those hindrances as much as possible. I'm 39 years old. I am married to Kristine Smout. I have three children. I work for AT&T. WEBER COUNTY Two candidate nights planned A meet-the-candidates night for those running for Marriott-Slaterville City Council will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The meeting will be held at city offices. Ogden residents will also have a chance to meet their candidates this week. Voters can find out where council and mayoral candidates stand on the issues at the Ben Lomond Council Parent Teachers Association meet-the-candidates night Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. It will be held in the gymnasium of the Ben Lomond High School, 800 Jackson Ave. Incumbent Mayor Matthew Godfrey and challenger Jesse Garcia will be on hand, along with Richard Hyer and Brandon Stephenson, who are vying for the Municipal Ward 2 council seat, and Timothy Eck and Amy Wicks, who are competing for the council at-large Seat C.
