April 2003 The City Council Meeting held on April 17, 2003, was the occasion for numerous actions. Several new business licenses were approved. The city welcomes Specialties Distribution and Design, Stanger Stables, All Auto, LLC, and Affordable Yard and Lawn Care. KBC Leasing manufacturing subdivision at approximately 1187 W. 1700 South was approved at the same meeting. Mayor Keith Butler presented Heather Holley a proclamation for her achievements as the Utah Dairy Princess. Councilman Kim Slater has been a sponsor for the Dairy Princess contest for many years. Textual amendments to the general plan were approved. This involves deleting copied language from state law in the text to incorporate the state law by reference. State code can be found on the Internet at "Utah.gov." The advantage in the change is that when the state legislature changes the law, our ordinance should still conform. An interlocal agreement renewing the Weber County Sheriff Narcotics Strike Force was approved by resolution. Mayor Butler reported that this meeting will be the last held in the current building, as it must be vacated in May. The new address will be 1140 West 400 North, the south end of Building 15C on BDO. It offers several advantages over the site at Cape Construction. No cost was involved in cancelling that lease agreement. He also told the council that Bona Vista will include a flyer with each monthly bill and the city can enclose our newsletter with the water bill. Also, a grant was received from WACOG to go towards a development of a senior citizen center. A committee is now in place to locate property for a city building. He advised the council that the disaster committee is in place. Also a neighborhood watch program is being organized by Cory Meyerhoffer, as an Eagle Scout project. The EPA storm water program is in effect, and Mr. Martin has explained the program to people as needed. Jeremiah's Restaurant at 1307 West 1200 South reopened on April 16, 2003, after a six-week transformation that expanded its seating capacity by 60% and doubled its staff. The original building was erected in 1979 and has been a popular dining facility. Their breakfast has been voted the best in the state for several consecutive years by readers of Salt Lake Magazine. Bits and Pieces Jaden Douglas Meyerhoffer, son of Chad and Diana Meyerhoffer, was born April 2, 2003. Travis Thompsen was named to the 2002-03 Standard-Examiner All-Area Boys Basketball Team. Fremont High School's team, the Silver Wolves, won the school's first league boys basketball title, while advancing to the state 5-A quarterfinals. Travis was a shooting guard on that team. During lunch hour time, Fremont High students, including some from our city, folded about 2,500 U. S. 8 by 12 inch flags which were sent to members of the Armed Forces.
