Show "An Apple for the Teacher" Teachers Honored by Standard Examiner May 4, 2003 May 4-10 is Teacher Appreciation Week. Students in the Top of Utah were given the opportunity to thank their teachers for exceptional service through the Standard-Examiner Apple for the Teacher Awards program. They showed their gratitude by producing a bumper crop of Apple for the Teacher nominations - more than 1,500 were sent this year. Most of the nominations were made by current students, but some were sent by older readers who remember a special teacher who made a real difference in their lives. The teachers nominated for Apple Awards are listed on these pages. Several of the teachers were nominated by more than one student, but are only listed once. Each teacher nominated is a winner and will receive an Apple for the Teacher Award certificate, along with the best reward - the original nominatic written by the student. The Standard-Examiner Newspaper In Education team selects just a few teachers each year for special Apple Awards. Selecting just a few teachers for special recognition is always difficult - all of the nomination letters deserve to be printed. The selection of these teachers was based on what the students wrote about their teachers. The nominations of these teachers are printed here. To thank the teachers for allowing us to share their nominations, they will be presented with a plaque during a brief ceremony at the Apple for the Teacher Open House. The Apple for the Teacher open house will be held 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, at Ogden Union Station, 2501 Wall Avenue, Ogden. All of the teachers nominated for Apple Awards are invited to the open house, as are the students who nominated them. Teachers are invited to pick up their certificates at the open house, while they enjoy apple dessert. The Standard-Examiner is proud to sponsor the Apple for the Teacher Awards, and thanks teachers for their hard work and dedication! ARTSTOP: OGDEN, 2484 Washington Blvd., street level suites, Ogden.
