Show The Weber Sentinel Reports on City Meetings in the December 2003 Issue Marriott-Slaterville By Joyce VanTassell Mayor Keith Butler presented his Volunteer of the Month Community Service Award to Mrs. Elna Lucas, who was honored for her work in gathering and writing the history of the community. At present there are four volumes of Marriott-Slaterville history written by Mrs. Lucas. The council also considered whether or not to pass a nuisance ordinance. Discussion centered on whether this was necessary, or if the council could handle concerns such as junk cars, dumped garbage, etc. with existing ordinances. After discussion, the council decided to get information from neighboring communities about their nuisance ordinance and whether or not it was effective in dealing with community problems. The council also reviewed the procedures that need to be taken to address complaints from individuals in the community. Council President Dennis Ilium complimented the mayor on his efforts to address concerns from the community, and encouraged the council and mayor to use the system that is in place. A complaint log is kept at city hall when a complaint is phoned in. If someone speaks to a council member directly, instead of calling city hall, it is important to pass that complaint directly to the mayor, who will address concerns as he receives them. All concerns should be funneled through the Mayor, and then addressed by the council if the Mayor cannot resolve the problem. Council decided to put a form in the community newsletter to help citizens understand how to get their concerns addressed. Council member Delbert Hodson pointed out that, since they are in the 84404 zip code, Marriott-Slaterville is having trouble collecting taxes that belong to them and not to Ogden. This is because the State tax commission uses zip codes to distribute taxes, and not the tax unit number. Councilman Hodson proposed that they work with the tax commission and ask them to collect and distribute tax monies by tax unit, not by zip code. The mayor noted that Marriott-Slaterville gets much of the money back every month from Ogden, but has to keep checking back with them every month. Planning commission The planning commission met Wednesday, November 12th and considered several matters. Dominating the meeting were two proposed subdivisions for Marriott-Slaterville. Mr. Ken Holman appeared before the commission, addressing the concerns of the commission and asking for final approval for the Quail Meadows subdivision on the Imani-Woolf property. Mr. Holman described the secondary water system that they proposed, which would be installed and maintained by Mountain View Irrigation. He also explained the developers' plans for the sewer system. The commission decided that they needed more information and tabled the matter. A 33-lot subdivision with some commercial development attached was brought before the planning commission. It would be located at approximately 250 N 1900 W. Mr. Norman George presented the plans for the subdivision, which includes a walking trail by the nearby canal, small 'green' area for the residents, and a fenced detention pond. Each lot in the proposed subdivision would be one-half acre or larger. The commission questioned Mr. George about water issues and fire department access. They granted the subdivision conceptual approval, with preliminary approval based on satisfactory answers to the aforementioned concerns and meeting a list of other requirements standard for a subdivision development. |
