The collection includes Autobiographies, Oral Histories, History of Marriott, History of Slaterville, and the History of the Merging Townships to create Marriott-Slaterville City. This information has left behind rich histories, stories and important information regarding the history of the Marriott-Slaterville area. |

Show August 2003 Beginning this month, The Pioneer Post will be delivered with the Bona Vista Water District new full page bill. The water company is allowing each community it serves to insert its newsletter with the bill. The city is setting up an emergency management plan and Citizens' Emergency Response Team (CERT). As part of the emergency planning in the community the newsletter has included emergency tips. Your Family Disaster Plan, a synopsis of an American Red Cross pamphlet was distributed as part of the monthly newsletter. It is a guide for a family to use in creating their personal disaster plan, and gives steps towards preparedness. A complete copy can be obtained from the city offices. August 4th was the final Evening of Music at the Park for this summer. Featured performers were the No Name Band, Kaitlyn and Dallin Holley, and Shawn Holley. Our thanks goes to all who have participated in these fun and entertaining musical evenings. August 20th was Senior Citizens Night for older residents in the community. A Mexican dinner, catered by Melina's Mexican Restaurant was served and enjoyed by those of our city courageous enough to admit being "more mature." It was a "Meeting of the Memories," and began at 5:00 p.m. in the Slaterville Park. Those in attendance had a look at "way-back-when," as memories were shared of the two cities which became one. Shauna Meyerhoffer is commended for her usual great work in presenting this fine activity for our senior residents. Three council offices are open for election this year. By the deadline date of August 15, 2003, L. Kent Slater, Kent Meyerhoffer, Ned Allred and Scott VanLeeuwen had filed for the at-large seat For the East District, incumbent Dennis Ilium and Gerald Bischoff have filed for that position. For the West District, incumbent Rob Smout, Robert DeVries and Jay Miller will be on the primary election ballot. The primary election will be held on October 7, 2003, at the city offices, for the run-off to establish the ballot for the November 4, 2003, municipal election. At the August 21, 2003, City Council meeting, a business license was approved for Forever Today Photography which will involve off-site photography. Also at the Council meeting, officials approved a resolution urging public support for organ transplant donor programs. The Mayor proclaimed August 18 to September 1, 2003, Utah Fire Fighters for Muscular Dystrophy Month. A vacant single family dwelling unit was exempted from the $3.00 monthly storms water utility fee if the dwelling unit is vacant and the water utility services to the unit has been disconnected or terminated. City Administrator Bill Morris reported to the council that several ordinances will have to be amended in order to comply with new state laws. Several of these laws were discussed by the council. Mayor Butler reported that the revenue from sales tax is down about 9 or 10% from last year, but so far the city is doing all right. Elna Lucas was appointed as a judge for the coming primary and municipal election. Orvil Holley expressed his concern about the wide spread puncture weeds that are a problem in our community and all over the county. He suggested that residents could improve the situation if they would destroy the ones growing on their property. Help in eradication of this weed by the Boy Scouts could be a great service project for them. |
