Show Standard May 31 1953 Obituaries Andrew Sorensen Andrew Philip Sorensen, 92, of 4058 Riverdale Rd., an original Utah pioneer, died of causes incident to age yesterday. He arrived in Utah with his parents in 1863 after crossing the plains by ox team with Mormon pioneers, and in later years he was a representative from San Juan County to the first State Legislature. While living in San Juan County, Mr. Sorensen held several political positions, serving as county attorney, county recorder, superintendent of schools and justice of the peace. He taught in many Utah schools. He was born April 4, 1861, in Lendenbro, Denmark, a son of Lars Christen and Karen M. Abrahamsen Sorensen. He graduated from University of Deseret (now University of Utah) in 1885. He married Mary Alice Hammond in the Logan LDS Temple on August 28, 1889. Mrs. Sorensen died in Ogden April 21, 1948. After living in San Juan County, the family moved to Grand County, where Mr. Sorensen was elected a representative to the Second State Legislature. He introduced and had passed the first bill for an appropriation for road and bridge improvements in the state. In Grand County he was assistant county attorney, was county assessor, a member of the town board, a commissioner and chief probation officer during a long period of public service. An active worker in the LDS Church all his life, he served as a Sunday School teacher and was active in priesthood work. He served in several bishoprics and as superintendent of the Mutual. He and his wife did work for more than 7,000 names as temple workers. Surviving are five sons and two daughters: Philip H. and Ivan C. Sorensen, Ogden; Frank C., South Dakota; Howard D., Taylor; John H., Logan; Mrs. Alice Mower, Ogden; Mrs. Marie Adamson, Salt Lake City, by 31 grandchildren and 53 greatgrandchildren, and by two sisters: Mrs. John Anderson, Pocatello, Idaho, and Mrs. J. W. Braley, Logan. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p. m. in the Aultorest Mortuary Chapel, with Bishop E. Carl Green, of the Taylor LDS Ward oficiating. Friends may call at the mortuary from 6 to 9 p. m. Monday, and until time of services Tuesday. Interment will be in West Weber cemetery under direction of Aultorest Mortuary. T.V. was Shown at 115 p.m. and 715 p.m. today I attended funeral of Andrew Philip Sorensen age 99 an immigrant Pioneer of Utah 1861. I attended his school when I was age 17 in Paris Idaho I spoke briefly at his funeral A few friends were in to see T.V. of coronation this evening Wednesday, June 3, 1953 Nice day. Warmer. I went down town for brief spell. Listened to President Eisenhour and Serg Benson tonite Also on T.T. saw Prize fight on T.V. good two young Negroes.
