AIRPLANE DEBUT Tribune Feby 17 53 Pioneer, 94 Tests Out First Wings The usual nervousness before a first airplane ride was conspicuous by its absence Monday afternoon as a 94 year old Vernal woman waited and quietly sipped a cup of coffee before taking off for Los Angeles. Mrs. May Ruple, a pioneer of the Vernal area, acted every bit the seasoned traveler despite the fact it was her first long trip in an airplane. She was on her way to Los Angeles to visit a daughter, Mrs. O.C. Watson. Mrs. Ruple flew into Salt Lake City about noon from her home in Vernal via Frontier Airlines. Accompanying her on this leg was a granddaughter, Mrs. Billie Untermann. Most surprising thing about this trip was the short time she was in the air. She compared it to when she was a young woman and it took two weeks to make the trip. She went from Salt Lake to Los Angeles alone on Western Air Lines Flight 31. Mrs. May Ruple, 94 year old Vernal resident, climbs aboard a plane for flight to Los Angeles for a visit with a daughter.
