Parents of Missing G.I. Told Second Son Died in Crash Salt Lake Tribune Feby 16 53 CORAL GABLES, FLA., Feb. 15 A couple who was notified only last week that their son was missing in action in Korea had another son aboard the National Airlines plane which crashed during a flight from Tampa to New Orleans Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Richard H. Shaddick were notified last week that their son, Second Lt. John Philip Shaddick, 25, a bomber pilot, was reported missing Jan. 29. Another son, Second Lt. Richard Harrison Shaddick Jr., 22, was returning to his station at Goodfellow Air Force Base, San Angelo, Tex., aboard the ill fated NAL plane which went down in the gulf with 41 passengers and five crew members aboard. Upon receiving word that her son was missing in Korea, Mrs. Shaddick wrote President Dwight D. Eisenhower, with copies to the Florida congressional delegation, saying: To heck with the North Koreans lets get our boys home. Mrs. Shaddicks letter added: We know our boys want to come home and this is all that is important. If it cannot be done any other way, leave Korea to whoever wants it. I hope other anguished mothers all over the country will join me in imploring their congressmen and senators and the other good powers that be to get busy and get our boys out of those prisons and off the battlefields and bring them home. The elder Shaddick, a realtor, said upon being informed of the NAL planes ill fated flight: We are all chopped to pieces. I just dont know how well survive if Richard is missing too.
