Show IE, Thursday, October 29, 1953 Open House at Manti Honors Pioneer on 94th Birthday Special to The Tribune MANTI An open house held recently at the home of Mrs. Orpha Carlson honored Julius B. Christensen on his 94th birthday. Mr. Christensen was born Oct. 12, 1859, at Moroni, a son of Niels L. and Hansine Hansen Christensen. His father was called to settle several communities in Sanpete and Sevier Counties, taking his family with him. Active in various capacities, Mr. Christensen has worked as a teacher, merchant, farmer and livestock raiser, photographer, contractor and gravel inspector. His work has taken him throughout several western states and into Old Mexico. He has done considerable traveling, just to see the country, including a trip through the Panama Canal and to attend two worlds fairs. Active in politics, he has been a delegate to several Democratic conventions. He acted as an assistant sergeant at arms at a national convention held in St. Louis. He was also present in Washington, D. C., at the inaugeration of William McKinley. He has also been active all of his life in church activities. He filled two mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, one to Denmark and the other to the state of Washington. He has taught in most of the auxiliary organizations and was stake supervisor for the religion classes taught for many years in the church. He is now an active member of the High Priests Quorum of the Manti North Ward. Mr. Christenson married Mary Domgaard in January, 1886, in the Logan L D S Temple. She died in 1940 in Salt Lake City. He has one son, Earl C. Christenson, Huntington, and 5 grandchildren. 2,467 Vets Dock From Far East SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 28 The transport Gen. W. A. Mann arrived from the Orient Wednesday with 2,467 military passengers and dependents. Aboard were 646 veterans of the First Marine Air Wing in Korea. The others, from Japan bases and other Pacific outposts, included 1,294 Air Force personnel, 286 Army men from Japan 21 Navy and 230 dependents. Your Community Chest is still short of its goal. Lund, North Sanpete Stake president, and served many years as president of North Sanpete Stake high priests quorum. He is a member of Brigham Young University Emeritus Club. He wac married June 24. 1891, in the Manti LDS Temple to Eva Madsen of Manti. She died Nov. 15,1942. Besides his daughter, Mrs. J. S. Jensen, he has seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. |
