The Conference Championships were held in conjunction with the District Seven meet at Wasatch State Park in Midway, UT. Overall, Weber finished fifth in the District Seven competition ahead of such nationally ranked teams as Wyoming (ranked 3rd), Northern Arizona (15th), and Idaho (16th). Seven of the top 20 ranked teams in the nation participated in the event, including defending NCAA champion Texas-E] Paso. There were three Big Sky teams ranked in the top 20, the most any sport has had in a top 20 poll. Norberto Segura finished 10th overall with a time of 33:15.7. Although none of the competing teams had an outstanding record for the fall of 1979, there were a few bright spots along the way. They took their own Weber State Invitational with a score of 36, followed by Utah Patty Huff (48), Utah State (100) and Southern Utah State (130). They also won the Utah State Invitational in Logan, with a score of 28, followed by BYU (53), Utah State (70), Utah (79) and Southern Utah State (112).
