By Nan Holyoak Mechell Fowden, senior leftfielder on the Wildcat softball team, has been named to the Intermountain Athletic Conference All-Conference Softball Team. The all-conference team was selected at the Regional Softball Tournament held in Albuquerque May 7-9. In addition, Fowden was nominated as an All-American candidate from Region 7. Fowden maintained a batting average of .337 this season and led the Lady Wildcats with 18 rbi’s, 12 stolen bases and six homeruns. In her fourth year of varsity softball at Weber State, Fowden has a career batting average of .277 with 46 rbi’s, 40 stolen bases, 33 base on balls and nine homeruns to her credit. Out of Hillcrest High School in Midvale, Utah, Mechell was also a member of the Lady Wildcat basketball team for four years and started at the guard position her last two seasons. This is the second all-conference honor for Fowden during her softball career at Weber State. She was previously named as an All-Conference Outfielder in 1979.
