Show Admission c. Maturity—Persons 21 years of age or over who have not completed a full high school course may be admitted if in the judgment of the Admissions Committee their preparation is adequate. If such students wish to graduate from Weber State College, they must matriculate by meeting the college entrance requirements. 3. Early Admission — The College has a program in early admission for the exceptionally well-qualified high school students. Students with high scholastic achievement through their junior year may be considered individually for early admission upon recommendation of their high school principal and superintendent. A student accepted into the early admission program will be considered a fully matriculated student. Students wanting more detailed information concerning this program should contact the Director of Admissions. 4. Transfer Students — To be admitted to Weber State College, transfer students from another college or university must submit the following information at least 30 days prior to registration: (1) a Weber State College Application for Admission, (2) official transcripts showing all college work previously taken, and (3) evidence that they are in good standing and eligible to re-enroll at the college or university where they were most recently registered. All transfer students who have completed 15 credit hours or more will not be required to take the ACT if the equivalent to our English 100 or English 101 is included in the 15 hours. Transfer students must give evidence of having maintained an average of 2.0 (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, E = 0) in their previous college work. Any exceptions to the admissions standards must be approved by the Admissions Committee. Students transferring from an accredited junior college will be accepted at Weber State with upper division standing if they present evidence of having an associate of science or arts degree and have completed a general education program comparable to that of Weber State College. If such is not presented, applicants may be requested to complete general requirements as outlined in this catalog. 5. Readmission of Former Students — Any time students interrupt their continuous enrollment at WSC by not registering for one or more quarters, with the exception of summer quarter, they must apply for readmission. If students have been out of school for one year or less, they may reapply simply by calling the Admissions Office and requesting that a registration packet be prepared for them for the quarter they intend to enroll. If they have remained out of school for more than one year, they must reapply on a formal application that can be obtained from the Admissions Office. A student who has been registered at another school since attending Weber State College is considered a transfer student and must make formal application through the Admissions Office and comply with all application requirements of a transfer student. 6. Bootstrap Program—Weber State College Admissions Office will evaluate records of military service personnel applying for the Bootstrap Program. Applicants should make formal application and provide the Admissions Office with a complete set of educational and military records along with a request for a Bootstrap evaluation interview. 7. Foreign Students—Before a foreign student can be considered for admission, the student must submit an application form; an official transcript in English from each secondary school, college or university attended; a certificate, diploma, or government examination report received on completion of secondary school work; and the degree, license, or diploma received on completion of university training abroad. Applicant must also submit a financial statement proving they have funds adequate for school and living expenses for the full length of time they expect to attend Weber. To demonstrate proficiency in English, a foreign student is required to take either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the English Proficiency Test. Arrangements to take the TOEFL can be made by writing directly to TOEFL, Educational Testing Service, P.O. Box 592, Princeton, New Jersey 08540, U.S.A. The English Proficiency Test must be taken at the American Consulate given by the consulate examiner. All of the above information should be in the Admissions Office at least 60 days prior to registration for the quarter the student wishes to enter. A foreign student 10 Financial Aids planning to enter Weber State College should communicate with the Admissions Office, Weber State College, Ogden, Utah 84408. Their transferring from another college in the United States must have been enrolled in that college for at least one academic year before their application will be considered at Weber State College. All foreign students are expected to enroll every quarter and they must take a minimum of 12 credit hours each quarter. Foreign Student Adviser—All foreign students are required to meet with the Foreign Student Adviser immediately after arriving on campus to receive individualized briefing and academic advice. The Foreign Student Adviser gives assistance to foreign students in meeting the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service requirements concerning visas, passports, permits, permission to work and related matters. Foreign students are also assisted in making academic, personal- social, and environmental adjustments to campus and community life. Social and cultural events, community activities and the programs of the International Student's Club are coordinated through the Foreign Student Adviser. REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION TO A CERTIFICATE PROGRAM The certificate programs are designed to provide one year instruction in Carpentry, Auto Body, Diesel Service, Cosmetology, Food Service, Chartered Life Underwriter, Electronics Service Technician, Instrument Repair, Machine Tool, Welding, Secretarial Science. High school graduation is desirable but not required. An applicant who is not a high school graduate must be 18 years of age or over and receive the approval of the Admissions Committee and department concerned. ACADEMIC ADVISEMENT At the time of admission, students are assigned a major. If a student has declared a major, the student will be advised in that major field. It is recommended that students contact their major field department and schedule an appointment with an adviser. Students who have not declared a major, or who are general education students, will be assigned to advisers in the Academic Advisement Office. These students need to contact the Academic Advisement Office, Library Room 3 or call 626-6977 for an appointment. Thus, guidance is available for all students as they plan their registration schedules and move toward a degree of their choice or toward a certificate program. HIGH SCHOOL AND JR. COLLEGE SERVICES The office of High School and Jr. College Services maintains liaison between Weber State College and prospective students. Representatives of the College make scheduled visits to all high schools and junicr colleges within the state and to selected schools in neighboring states. The purpose of these visits is to inform students and educators of the educational programs available at the College and to provide them with information about application procedures and deadlines. Campus visits for interested student groups, student and counselor conferences, and the total student recruitment program are coordinated through the High School and Jr. College Services Office. Scholarships — The School Services Office is also responsible for the Weber State College Scholarship program. In accordance with state law, the college grants tuition waiver scholarships to students, (State Normal, Out-of-State, Activity, Academic). The Scholarship deadline is February 1 for the following academic year. Community, business, professional and fraternal organizations also grant scholarships to Weber State students. These private or sponsor scholarships are open to qualified students. Stipends are for either partial or full educational expenses as determined by the individual scholarship grant.
