Sessions, Dean The programs of the School of Business and Economics prepare individuals for careers in private business, governmental agencies, and as business teachers. Such preparation involves the analysis and cultivation of decision making skills, leadership methods and styles, research concepts and techniques, and an informed awareness of our American economic system. REQUIREMENTS FOR BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS MAJORS Baccalaureate Degree Requirements—Candidates for the Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Science degree in the School of Business and Economics must satisfy the following and all other requirements as outlined in the departmental programs. General Requirements: A. Specific course and bachelor degree requirements of the college (see index). Economics SS274 (5) or 430 (4) is recommended to satisfy the state requirement. B. Bachelor Degree General Education Requirements (see index). Specific general education courses required of Business and Economics majors (14 credit hours): Mathematics PS115 (5), Economics SS101 (5), Data Processing GE101 (4). C. Pre-Business Core (31 credit hours): The pre-business core is required for all upper division courses except as noted in the departmental requirements. Economics 102 (3), 160 (4), 260 (4), 261 (4); Accounting 201 (4), 202 (4), 203 (4); Office Administration 225 (4).* D. Upper Division Core (24 credit hours): Economics 301 or 302 or 303 (4); Finance 320 (4); Management 301 (4); Marketing 301 (4); Business Administration 320 (4), 478 (4).* *Bus. Educ./Office Admin. Core (See departmental requirements.) Minor Requirements—Minors are not required of students majoring in the School of Business and Economics except for those who elect the Bachelor of Arts degree in General Economics. If a student desires an option minor within the school, however, special requirements are noted in each departmental section on the following pages. Advisement—Programs within the School of Business and Economics are designed for flexibility in the student's course of study. This flexibility, however, makes it extremely important for the students to confer regularly with their adviser to avoid duplication of some requirements which may be met by a single course. All students are encouraged to visit with their advisers at least once a quarter to insure proper progress toward graduation. Grade Requirements and "D" grades—All students who wish a degree in any major offered by the School of Business and Economics must achieve at least a 2.00 G.P.A. in all work attempted in the school and a G.P.A. of 2.25 in their major field Specific Requirements. Additionally, no "D" grades will be acceptable in the major field's Specific Requirements. 84 85 |
