SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS: A. Minimum of 33 credit hours in office administration courses. Required courses: Office Administration 103 (3), 201 (4), 202 (2), 302 (4), 303 (1), 304 (1), 305 (1), 353 (4), 354 (2). Letters, manuscripts, and tables for business use. Prerequisite: OA 101 or 25 wpm. A W S Su 103. Advanced Typewriting (3) Tables, letters, manuscripts, and medical, legal, or financial problems. Prerequisite: OA 102 or 40 wpm. A W S Su 111. Machine Shorthand (4) Introduction to Touch Shorthand keyboard, theory, and speed development to 60 wpm. Prerequisite: Typing 25 wpm. A W S 112. Intermediate Machine Shorthand (4) Completion of theory with practice dictation. Prerequisite: OA 111, typing 40 wpm. W S 120. Shorthand Review (4) Any shorthand system. Review basic theory; review knowledge of phrasing, brief forms/speed forms; reading; speedbuilding; transcription. A 121. Elementary Shorthand <4) Introduction to shorthand theory with emphasis upon reading and writing fluency. Prerequisite: Typing 40 wmp. A Su 122. Intermediate Shorthand (4) Any shorthand system. Business Mathematics by Calculating Machines (4) Problems in percentage, discount, simple and compound interest, merchandising, taxes, etc., solved by calculators. A W S Su 151. Calculating Machines (2) For students in majors other than OA or Business Education. Learning the electronic and 10-key calculators to solve personal business problems. Credit not granted for both OA 150 and 151. A W S Su 201. Business English/Machine Transcription (4) English essentials, letter writing, transcribing machines, and special typewriters. Prerequisite: Typing 40 wpm. A W S Su 202. Filing (2) Alphabetic, geographic, numeric, subject filing. A W S Su 211. Dental/Medical Office Assistant (2) Learning the secretarial and office management skills performed by the dental/medical assistant. Six weeks of course study will be followed by four weeks of practice in a simulated dental office. W 225. Business Communications (4) Review and application of oral and written communication, including report writing. Prerequisite: English 103. A W S Su 289. Cooperative Work Experience (1 -9) Open to all students in the Office Administration/ Business Education Department who meet the minimum Cooperative Work Experience requirements of the department. The course objective for each student will be developed between the student, the department, and a suitable employer providing the opportunity for an on-the-job experience. Evaluation of course participants will be snared between the employer, student, and the department. Grade and amount of credit will be determined by the department. A W S Su 292.
