Noid, Head; Instructor, T. Earle Sanders. BACCALAUREATE DEGREE REQUIREMENTS The Department of Speech grants the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees. Students intending to take either must complete 45 to 60 hours of satisfactory work in speech according to the specific requirements. Two types of majors are offered: A Departmental major in Speech and a Speech and Theatre Arts major for prospective Secondary Education teachers, offered in conjunction with the Theatre Arts Department. The Department strongly recommends that students take the B.A. rather than the B.S. degree by completing 24 hours in one foreign language, provided they do not have the high school equivalent. (Two full years of high school language, is equivalent to 15 hours of college work.) Speech Major: Students majoring in Speech must complete 45 to 60 quarter hours of approved lower and upper division courses including Speech 1, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 107, 110, 112, 115, 121; Theatre Arts 40, 50 or 51, 65. To complete major requirements a student must choose at least one course from the following: Speech 70, 71, 121, 122; Theatre Arts 155, 157, 165. Also recommended are English 160, 168, 152. Speech and Theatre Arts Major: Students majoring in Speech and Theatre Arts must complete 45 to 60 quarter hours of approved lower and upper division courses including Speech 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 21, 107, 190 and. Theatre Arts 40, 51, 60, 65, 67, 140, 153. To complete major requirements, a student must choose at least one course from the following: Speech 70, 112, 121, 122; Theatre Arts 150, 155, 165. The following courses are also recommended: English 60, 84 or 89, 160, 164, 165; Speech 71; Theatre Arts 50, 52. Students in education with a teaching major or minor in Speech and Theatre Arts must complete the same requirements as a Speech and Theatre Arts composite major or minor, plus Speech 119. Speech Minor: Student minoring in Speech must complete Speech 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 107, 112. Recommended also is Speech 1; English 25. Speech and Theatre Aits Minor: Students minoring in Speech and Theatre Arts must complete Speech 10, 13, 15 and Theatre Arts 40, 51, 60, 65. The following additional courses are recommended for minors: English 25, 60, 84, 89. Extra Curricula Activity Program Forensics: Participation in inter-collegiate forensic activities is conducted in conjunction with the instructional program 149 |
