Show was held January 31, 2007, at the Farr West City Hall, with six UDOT representatives and a representative from the Wasatch Front Regional Council available to answer questions. Our community was impacted to an even greater extent this year as major construction is occurring at the 12th Street interchange. We are looking forward to the ramp improvements and the completion of the work. Weber County Deputy Sheriff Mark Horton was injured near the I-15 overpass on 12th Street about 4:00 a.m. on June 25, 2007. He was responding to a possible DUI in the construction zone. The construction work lights made a field sobriety test difficult to read, so Horton crossed the road to ask that the lights be turned off for a few moments. As he walked back across the road, a construction subcontractor pickup truck hit him, throwing him to the ground, hitting his head. Fortunately, injuries were deemed minor. UDOT announced the planned reconstruction of 12th Street from I-15 to Harrison Boulevard, possibly beginning in 2008. It will include reconstruction of the street, storm drainage, curb, gutter and sidewalks. The western part of this work is also in our community, so construction impediments will affect us during this work. We think, "Does it ever end?" Signage problems were discussed with UDOT representatives during the council meeting on September 20, 2007. The council wants 400 North to be signed as 400 North, not 450 North, and that the sign should read "Pioneer Road - 400 North." Noise ordinance signs were requested. Brent DeYoung, from UDOT, said he would check to make sure what signage was possible. UDOT has been asked to widen 1900 West with a center turning lane. The legislature rejected the transfer of 400 North to UDOT, but the city continues to work on this matter. Various other concerns about road signs were brought up by councilmen at the meeting on October 18, 2007. The speed limit sign on 2200 West is blocked by trees and needs to be moved, the 10 ton limit sign on 400 North should be moved closer to 1200 West, the street sign at 200 South and 2550 West is missing, and the noise ordinance engine brake restriction signs are needed. These items have been taken care of, except for the noise restriction signs, with signs moved or placed appropriately. Bill Morris has been following up on the signs with UDOT, but has not received an answer. Several projects were allotted funds by the City Council on May 17, 2007. Among those receiving funding were the 1200 West Quail Meadows Road Re-design in accordance with the bid submitted by Advanced Paving and the 400 North 1200 West intersection reconstruction plan in conjunction with Ogden City for a portion of funds for future traffic light facilities. UDOT will help with the costs for a new city storm drain line on 1200 West as part of that project. The paving on 1200 West at Quail Meadows was completed by August 1, 2007. The 1200 West overlay and striping cost over $160,000. A portion of 1200 West was not resurfaced as the possibility of running sewer and water into the Marriott Park is being considered. Ogden City will be paving and striping the entrance at the west gate of BDO. Scott Van Leeuwen attended a steering meeting for the Legacy Highway in February 2007. The committee said it would possibly come along 5100 West. The project is at least 15 years away. Mr. Morris presented the updated Capital Improvements Plan to the council on October 18, 2007. He explained the road construction projects on the plan, after Delbert Hodson expressed road reconstruction concerns he has. The plan was approved unanimously by the council. Delbert Hodson reported that he sees a lot of speeders on 1200 West. He wants the noise ordinance signs posted to reduce engine brake noise. He thinks the freeway signs need to be changed to remove "Harrisville" and read "Marriott-Slaterville." Mayor Keith Butler had a meeting with Captain Anderson of the Sheriff's Department, concerning the semi-trucks traveling on 1200 West. Every deputy has been notified that they are to write tickets to each semi on 1200 West that is not in compliance. 10 |
