Show Marriott-Slaterville History August 2007 Morris advised that council approval would be required before this could happen. The Bylaws of the Pioneer Special District were unanimously approved by the City Council. Councilman Scott Van Leeuwen will attend an upcoming transportation meeting with UDOT. President Ilium asked him to request UDOT to widen 1900 West with a center turning lane. The city has paid for the Central Weber sewer impact fees for the parks. Steve Mecham will put in sewer lines for the parks when it is necessary. The parking lot in the back of the city office is ready to be paved. Mayor Keith Butler reported that at the WACOG meeting the WFRC encouraged the city to apply for another CDBG grant. He also reported that the budget is in line. Mr. Slater requested that the staff check the landscape operation on Pioneer Road. He also reported that there has been no West Nile virus found in Weber County. Emily Stanger addressed the council regarding the parks and provided a list of recommended park improvements. President Ilium will have these forwarded to the Park Committee. In the August 2007 issue of The Pioneer Post, Jonathan Saunders encouraged residents to eradicate the puncture vine weed from their property. This noxious weed causes many problems in our lives with its sharp, penetrating burr. The election for three open City Council seats will be held in November. Alphabetically the candidates are: At-large, Gerald Bischoff and Scott Van Leeuwen; East District, Dennis Illum and Randy Phipps; West District, Rob Smout. A Citizen Emergency Response Team (CERT) training series has been scheduled, running each Thursday night for 7 weeks, beginning September 6. (September 6, 13, 20, 27, October 4, 11, 18) The training will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. each week. Dixie Little is in charge of the training, which is open to any Marriott-Slaterville resident. An Evening of Music at the Park was held on August 11, 2007, at the Marriott Park, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Cub Scouts from the Marriott-Slaterville L. D. S. Third Ward presented a song. The Wilson McConkie family, formerly residents of our city, delighted us with songs. They were followed by the original verse of our poet, Michael Murphy. Bits and Pieces Donald Leonard Hurlburt, age 64, died on August 12, 2007. Jerilyn Swift White died August 24, 2007, at the age of 76. 116 |
