RESIDENTIAL GARBAGE SERVICE Marriott-Slaterville City has examined the concept of a city-wide residential waste collection and disposal contract. This matter was brought before the city by concerned citizens wanting to keep garbage costs competitive and provide a uniform service. The city council formed an ad hoc citizen committee to explore providing such a service to the residents. Based upon the committee's recommendations, the city council requested bids from garbage companies interested in providing residential garbage collection and disposal for the city. Once the bids were received, the committee reviewed the bids and made recommendations on its preferred garbage provider. The city council accepted the committee's report and selected Waste Management as the garbage provider for the city. Waste Management, as the city's garbage provider, will furnish each resident with a new rolling garbage can and weekly garbage collection services for $12 per month. This amount includes all of the dumping fees, fuel costs, and billing/administrative costs. It is anticipated that the contract will begin April 2, 2007. However, if you want to start earlier or if you have questions, please contact Waste Management by calling 731-5542. If you start early, your rate may be slightly higher until the official city contract begins. As an added convenience, the city will handle billing and Bona Vista Water will collect your garbage bill on your monthly water bill statement. Some residents already have Waste Management so they will not see much of a change. Residents who have another provider will need to contact their current provider to cancel service by April 1, 2007, to prevent being possibly doubled billed. Those with existing contracts may need to wait until their contract expires before cancellation. Waste Management will be the exclusive residential service provider in the city as part of its franchise. However, businesses are also welcome to use Waste Management. In making the transition to Waste Management, it is anticipated there will be some concerns that may arise as all of the logistics are worked out. Please be patient as Waste Management and the city are committed to help resolve concerns.
