Show Ground Broken for New Church in City, June 9, 2007 First United Methodist Church breaks ground for building I JANAE FRANCIS/Standard-Examiner Workers break ground recently for the future First United Methodist Church in Marriott-Slaterville. Marriott-Slaterville mayor welcomes congregation BY JANAE FRANCIS Standard-Examiner staff jfrancis@standard.net MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE Commuters driving past a sign in a grass field announcing the future home of the First United Methodist Church for the last two years soon won't have to wonder when the church will finally be built. Sunday, church members celebrated a groundbreaking and blessed the property at 1339 W. 400 North where the new church is expected to be complete by January. "I've been asked a billion times when you were going to build that church," said Marriott-Slaterville Mayor Keith Butler as he welcomed church members to the ceremony. He said he was anxious for the "future home" part of the sign to be removed. "I hope this is the beginning of a long, wonderful relationship between you folks and our city," he said. Molds for the building's foundation already have been installed on the property. About 90 members lined themselves around the perimeter of the molds as part of the dedicatory celebration.
