Show MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE CITY HISTORY November 2007 For much of the month we thought, "is this really November?" It's not often we can pick tomatoes from our garden so late. One of our residents reported they also picked corn from their patch the first part of the month. At the end of the month we finally received some of the moisture we need so badly. The election was held on November 6, 2007, and incumbents Scott Van Leeuwen, Dennis Ilium and Rob Smout were re-elected. The election, carried out by the county, saw a surfeit of judges and voting machines. An unfortunate circumstance saw some provisional ballots being cast, as the County Poll Book had some of our citizens listed in the wrong district. The election result canvass provided by Weber County was approved by the City Council at the November 15, 2007, City Council Meeting. At that meeting, business licenses were approved for Pest Police, 720 South 200 West, a part-time home business where records are managed for the pest control business, and for Mountain Valley Mechanical, 1694 South 1100 West, HVAC, (heating and air conditioning), whose office is in the Business Park. Approval was given for the latter business subject to any approval needed from the planning commission. The City Council held a public hearing the same evening in the Legislative Chambers to take public comment on the report of the park committee concerning the Marriott Park and the Slaterville Park. That committee consists of Delbert Hodson, Danny Brown, Ron Holmes, Orvil Holley and Joe Deru. Danny Brown said that after the committee has met several times, the following suggestions to the city have been developed, and they were here to present these items to the council at this time. Both Parks: Get in writing the procedure to legally retain the parks so they cannot be sold or used for any other purpose. Fix items needed so that insurance can be obtained. Maintain parks (pick up grass and leaves). Establish the same rules for both parks. Build new restrooms and boweries. Attach new restrooms to sewer line. Marriott Park: Fence entire park. Pressurized irrigation. Design area for sand volleyball court, and design places to put in new trees. Dirt in field, weeds killed and field sterilized. Slaterville Park: Remove exterior cottonwood trees. Approve a design for new additions to park. Land purchased for new tennis court (it does not need to be at the park). Comments were received from several of the citizens attending the hearing. Ron Holmes recommended that the city purchase lawn mowers for each park and store them at each park. Aaron Buttars stated he often uses the nature park and wondered if the city has any plan to put a bridge over the Weber River to access the nature park trail to the other side. Karen Mecham would like to see a soccer field planned for the parks. 122 |
