Show The Pioneer Post Volume IX Issue 5 Marriott-Slaterville City Newsletter May 2007 1570 West 400 North - Phone 627-1919 Mayor's Message It is budget time again. I am pleased to say that this year the city has a balanced budget and still no property tax. Our revenues keep pace with expenditures. The city council holds its budget hearings on May 17th at 6:30 p.m. This year let me focus my discussion on one specific area of the budget - the EPA fee. Each month the city bills residents $3, and more for business based on hard-surface, for EPA Strom Water. This fee came about from a federal mandate under the Clean Water Act. Last year this fee paid for three storm water drains on 2800 West to prevent the continual flooding on that road and adjoining properties. This fee also help purchase a regional storm water detention basin on the east side of the community in hopes of alleviating drainage problems in that area. Although this fee is not much, over time it helps address some of our many storm water and drainage challenges. Please remember that the garbage day is Monday for those on the city garbage contract with Waste Management. Collection starts at 7:00 a.m., so have your cans out before that time. The city has arranged an added service for the elderly or persons who needs assistance wheeling their can out to the road. Leave a message with Becky at the city office at 627-1919 ext. 202 if you think you qualify. Remember our wonderful community cookbook? They were so popular we sold out weeks ago. I appreciate those who put this book together. Thanks to La Rae Brown and Carolyn Deru, the cookbook committee co-chairs; and thanks to the typists and committee members: Maurine Parker, Judy Fuller, Barbara Messerly, and Barbara Phipps. Also, thanks to everyone who participated and provided a recipie. Your work on the Marriott-Slaterville Cookbook made a local "best seller" and was an overwhelming success. Many expressed their delight at having a cookbook with fond recipes from prior generations, some who have passed away. Now, ours and future generations can enjoy these old family recipes. The senior program was able to gain approximately $3,000 from the sale of these cookbooks. Superb job. It is amazing to see the things we accomplish when we work together.
