Show Report of City Meetings, January. Weber Sentinel, February 2, 2007 Senior Center Activities Feb. 4, 2007 MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE CITY NEWS Marriott-Slaterville City Council report for Jan. 2007 By Joyce VanTassell Correspondent Marriott-Slaterville Planning Commission hears Plain City regarding annexation proposal The planning commission did not have a quorum present so no decisions were made. Planning commission meetings for 2007 will take place on the third Tuesday of the month, the same as last year. Election of commission chair and vice-chair will take place in the February meeting. Representatives from Plain City addressed the commission about land owned by Glenn Taylor that is in both cities. Plain City representative Artie Pearce recommended that Marriott-Slaterville allow the owner to annex into Plain City so that services would be easier to provide to the residents of the development. Pearce pointed out that there would be no way to get into the development from the Marriott-Slaterville side of the property. City Administrator Bill Morris said that the state does not provide for annexation under these circumstances, but suggested representatives from both cities could discuss a boundary adjustment as an alternative. Morris also stated that garbage and sewer services are not provided by Marriott-Slaterville to residents at this time, and that Weber County provides road services, including snow removal, and should be able to access the proposed development. Plain City Mayor Jay Jenkins addressed the commission and discussed the concept of cooperation between the cities regarding roads that one city develops so it will connect communities. Ray Bertoldi of Bertoldi Architects addressed the commission regarding the site plan for the First United Methodist Church which will be built at 1365 W. 400 N. in the city. The church will be approx 10,500 square feet and fit into the agrarian atmosphere of the city. City council meets, discusses garbage contract and Blair property issues Marriott-Slaterville City council met on Jan. 18 and re-elected Dennis Ilium as council president and Rob Smout as vice-president. The committee appointed to research garbage collection made their recommendations to the council concerning a provider. City staff will work on a contract to present to the council. It is estimated city residents will save about $4 per month under the new system. A public hearing was held concerning the planning commission's recommendation to revert zoning back to the original A-1 zoning for parcels of land owned by Frank Blair. After the public hearing, the council tabled the issue and asked City Administrator Bill Morris to meet with concerned parties one more time to try and resolve the issues.
