Show OUTLAW NATION ITALYS invasion of Ethiopia has been condemned by the league of nations council as an act of war against all other members of the league and economic sanctions have been authorized. Thus Italy stands convicted by the league as an outlaw nation. With this action the supporters of the league are required to proceed immediately to sever all trade or financial relations with Italy. There is talk in London and Paris of an armed attack on Italy. If that were to occur, the war would involve the greater part of Europe. In reply to the league a representative of Mussolinis official family is quoted as saying Italy will proceed to the complete conquest of Ethiopia regardless of sanctions. Rumors come out of Ethiopia to the effect that Mussolini has offered Haile Selassie terms of peace. Now that Aduwa has been taken the Italians, with a sense of revenge satisfied for their defeat 39 years ago, might be disposed to bring the war to an end by negotiation. |
