May 1935 Alaska To aid the federal government in one of its most significant experiments, 280 sturdy depression harried Minnesota woodsmen packed their meager belongings and entrained for the Pacific coast, there to embark for the nations last frontier Alaska. In the new land, F E R A will aid the group, comprising 67 families, to colonize the territory. The project is the governments first extensive rural rehabilitation plan. The colonizers were enlisted largely from the northern Minnesota woods, where folk are believed already acclimatized to the rigors of Alaska. Their north woods experience is expected to add to the certainty of the success of the new project.
