The Tiger team of Bob Faddis, Larry Sanders, Steve Fishburn and Kelly McGarry sped around ~.the oval in the winning time of 1:33.6, while Ben Lomond suffered a disqualification, and Ogden walked off with the championship. ‘Logan finished a surprising third with 49 points, while Sky View claimed fourth place with - 29%, Bear River and Roy finished with 37 points each, Box Elder had 24, Weber High 17, Bonneville 13, and Intermoun- ee ee 7 td he ee Se | ree ss i x shed ® (Bee kde EU GGE - # e.4 > ty tain failed to score. Only one record was broken during the day. Logan High’s Steve Jones went 14 feet, onehalf inch in the pole vault to establish a new mark. The old record was held by Todd Parker of Ben Lomond who vaulted 14 feet, one-fourth inch in 1968. TALENTED TIGERS Ogden euens talented Kelly McGarry and Bob Davis were the only double winers. McGarry captured both dash events and. Davis. won the shot. put.and discus. McGarry later came back to anchor the winning 880yard relay team, and it proved to be his most important run of the day. The top three finishers in each event, plus the three winning relay. teams, wil represent Region One in next Saturday’s State Class AA track and field championships at the University of Utah. Although only one new record was established Friday, the meet produced more than its share of thrills and upsets. In the mile run, Ben Lomond’s Danny Walker and Sky View’s Dan Durtschi staged a head-tohead battle until the final lap when Walker put on a punishing finishing kick to roar home the winner. Walker’s time was 4:26.7 as compared to Durtschi’s| 4:33.7, CLASSIC DUEL Ogden High’s John Rancifer and Box Elder’s Mark Forsgren also staged a classic duel in the 440, with Rancifer claiming the title in the time of 504, Forsgren got some measure of re- ho heh ££ RRS 446M MMA SY venge, wie CHRIS CHOURNOS of Bear River clears the last hurdle on his ‘way to winning , the 180-yard low hurdles Friday in the Region One track and field meet.
