Show SENIOR ACTIVITIES The Senior Center part of our city building is one of the most used, and most appreciated areas. The weekly lunch program at the Senior Center has proved to be very popular. About 50 seniors attend the Tuesday lunch, and the dinner in early evening on the third Wednesday of the month. A Yoga class for seniors is held at the senior center every Friday. AARP offered a driving class for people ages 55 and older at the community senior center on February 7 and 8, from noon to 4 p.m. each day. Many automobile insurance companies offer a discount for taking the 8 hour class, which costs $10.00. About 20 people attended the classes and "graduated." Another successful class was held on July 11 and 12. Cardiovascular disease was the focus of IHC McKay-Dee Hospital Senior Health Connection for February. National Heart Month is February, and seniors received advice on heart health at the monthly visit. Regular physical exercise is very important. They were invited to track the minutes of physical activity during the month and record them on a provided form. A free cholesterol and glucose screening for senior citizens was held at the senior center on March 27, 2007, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.. Although the crowd was small, those in attendance enjoyed good food and games. The Senior Library has been collecting donated books and other media and is developing a coordinated area and system so items may be borrowed and returned. At this time, the available space is full, so no more donations are currently being solicited. Flu shots were available through Applegate Home Care on Tuesday, October 23, 2007, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m., at the City Hail. Many of our citizens took advantage of this convenient service.
