Show MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE CITY HISTORY July 2007 A fun and successful community July 4th celebration got underway with the Ninth Annual Golf Tournament, which was held at the Ben Lomond Golf Course this year, as Mulligan's is closed for reconstruction this summer. About 80 people entered the event on July 2, with Dale Thompsen coming out the winner. On July 3rd, beginning at 6:30 p.m., at the Marriott Park the Little Miss Firecracker Pageant was held. Judges were Shelly Bailey, Michelle Tate, Kathy Carver and Ashley Carver. Adam Brandley was the MC. Kelsie Maughan was chosen as queen and also received the Friendliness Award. Kiniey Arnell and Jacelee Meyerhoffer were named Princesses, with Kinley named the Quiet contestant and Jacelee receiving the Healthy award. The Junior Miss Firecracker was Kylee Fuller, who received the Outdoor Award. Addison Jones, (Smiles Award) and Bailey DeVries (Outgoing Award) were named attendants. Ail contestants received framed portraits, courtesy of Kris Robrecht. Lori Jones was presented a gift for her work with the pageant since its inception. Also thanked for their work were Adam Brandley, Kris Robrecht, Lois and Dean Slater, Hannah Brandley, Stacee Meyerhoffer, and Shannon Heslington. Light refreshments were served. A hot July 4th began with 8:00 am. breakfasts at both the Marriott and Slaterville Parks. A 5K Run/Walk was held under the direction of Bob Hirschi. About 40 persons participated in the run this year which went from the Marriott Park to the Marriott-Slaterville L.D.S. Chapel, then returning to the Park. Melissa Moss was the women's winner, with "Chili" Ortega, from Plain City, as the winner for men. The ever enlarging parade was led by motorcycle officers from the Weber County Sheriff's Department, and a variety of floats, bicycles, tricycles, wagons, cars, a fire engine, and various dignitaries followed. Parade winners: 1st place, Daniel and Alex Holley (Will). 2nd place, Ren Meyerhoffer; 3rd place, Coltry Syme; Mayor's choice, Scott Van Leeuwen; People's choice, Scott Devries; Judge's Choice, Phipps Family; Most Patriotic, Little Miss Firecracker, and Best Try, Hannah Brandley. Garrett Bass, was named King at the Baby Contest. Slater Bentley Jones, was selected as Queen, with Tiagen Draper and Alexis Maughan as princesses. The City Councilmen again prepared hamburgers and hot dogs which were sold to hungry and happy attendees. A giant waterslide, various games and booths, and a candy cannon entertained children young and old. Pie Eating Contests were held in various categories, during which 40 pies were devoured (not daintily or politely). Al Farr kept his well deserved title in his age group. Pam Slater was again the general chair of the events. Thanks for everyone's hard work. An Evening of Music at the Park was held at the Marriott Park on July 21, 2007. Performing were members of the Pizzicota Strings, James Elmer, and Matt Urry. At the City Council meeting held on July 19, 2007, business licenses were approved for Peterson Precision Concrete Cutting, 1802 West 1350 South, #2, Riverside Industrial Park; Wild iron Works, 1667 West 400 North, mobile welding home business, and Allied Building Products Corporation, 801 West 12th Street, wholesale distribution of building materials. The Planning Commission has recommended a zoning reversion to prior designation of A-1, and zoning change to 0-1 according to the general plan, various parcels currently zoned M-1 and C-2, amending the general plan from manufacturing to commercial in part and in part the prior designation of 114 |
