Show Joe Deru is a featured artist displaying at he Ogden Valley Balloon Festival, Aug. 17-19, 2007 Joe Deru I was born and raised in Utah; my mother was professor of art at Weber State University. She provided and encouraged me in many varied mediums throughout my growing years. I went to London, England for two years for my church. Midway through that experience she died of lung cancer from the silica glazes she used in her pottery. Her last words sent to me on a tape were, "Don't waste the things I have taught you." Woods inspire me and have inherent artistic elements with wide spans of color and design. I only seek form and finish, so others can appreciate the creations of nature's hallowed hand. I sell through galleries, shows, and I do some commission work. August 10, 2007Great Golfing Hot start for Blair, Fremont So far, so good for the Fremont golf team. The Silver Wolves enter the high school season with high expectations, boasting a roster that includes hot shots Zac Blair, Denny Job, Jordan Herzog and Patrick Fishburn. On Thursday, the squad took to the course for the first time minus Herzog, who was on a camping trip at the Weber County Classic at Mount Ogden golf course. Taking on squads from Bonneville, Roy and Weber, Fremont didn't disappoint, collecting a 19-stroke victory over the second-place Lakers. Leading the way was Blair, who posted the only under-par round of the day a 4-under-par 66. "I played all right," said Blair in his typically humble fashion. "It was pretty good." The 16-year-old junior knocked down a 5-foot birdie putt at No. 18 to play even par on the back nine. With birdies at Nos. 2, 4, 5, 6 and 8, to go with a bogey at No. 7, Blair shot to the top of the leaderboard early and made the turn at 4-under-par. Fishburn, a freshman, finished tied for second with a 2-over-par 72. Bonneville's Tommy Wingert equaled that mark. Blair's sophomore teammate Cody Wass shot a 73 to finish tied for fourth, giving Fremont three finishes in the top five. Job, a senior, shot a 75 as the Silver Wolves finished with a team score of 286. Bonneville came in at 307, while Weber was. and Roy finished | 174 |
