Show August 2007 The Utah Sheriff 3rd Quarter, Volume 5, Issue 3 The Weber County Sheriff's Office by Sheriff Brad Slater As Sheriff of Weber County, it is my privilege to serve with the fine men and women who stand as protectors of our communities. My congratuations to those who receive public recognition such as found in this inspiring letter from Chief Whinham of the Roy Police Department, but also to those deputies who serve, day in, and day out. Their impact is highlighted in this note I received from a greiving father. "Sheriff Slater, I am the father of Jana Clark, the young lady that was killed in the accident on North Ogden Divide July 7th. It was a terrible day to say the least, but I wanted to let you know what a great group of Deputies you have. I was so pleased with the way everything was handled. During the many hours we were there, I got a small glimpse into the difficulty of their job and I have a much greater appreciation for them and what they do. And as great as they all were, Kelly Taylor was Outstanding. He was so concerned about our family and making sure that Jana was treated with dignity and respect. He did all he could to make an unbearable situation bearable. I cannot thank him enough. I'm sure I'm not telling you something you don't already know, but it is important to me and my family that you know how very grateful we are. Sincerely, Jeff Clark" It is often difficult to know how to best respond to those in distress, and I could only offer this response... Sheriff Slater Jeff: First, please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. I am always heartsick at the loss of life of our young people, especially when they have so much to good to offer our community as your daughter Jana did. I hope and pray that you and your family are being comforted at this difficult time of grief. I wish I could take your pain away. Thank you for taking time to let me know of your thoughts and observations of our deputies, specifically Deputy Kelly Taylor. I will make sure your comments are passed on to Kelly and our staff. I am proud of all of our employees and your kind words of praise, even in the midst of your heartache, will help them to continue their good work. Please let me know if there is anything that I or office can do to be of service to you and your family. May God bless you in this time of need. Sincerely, Brad Slater USA-6 ROY CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT 175 |
