Merriam Award of the American Political Science Association, which is given each year to “a person whose published work and career represents a significant contribution to the art of government through the application of social science research.” He is also senior fellow emeritus at the Brookings Institution in Washinton, D.C., where he has written six books on various aspects of government. ‘40 William J. “Hoot” Gibson, ‘40, national vice president of the Air Force Association’s Rocky Mountain Region, participated in the Association’s 21st annual orientation meeting for state presidents and national vice presidents at the group’s headquarters in Arlington, Va., Oct. 30-Nov. 1. : ‘48 Don L. She was named to the position in July 1985, after working for Layton City part time for eight years. She graduated in 1984 from BYU with a master’s degree in physical education and sports leadership. Eccleston, '82, received a master's degree in public administration from the University of Utah (spring of 1984) and was inducted into the public administration honorary society, Pi Alpha Alpha. He is currently working with the U.S. Air Force for a three-year period which began in September 1984 as a logistics management specialist for HQ USAF in the Pentagon on a Presidential Management Internship. Beginning in January 1986, he will work four months as a legislative analyst for Senator Wilson (Cal.). Mathews, ‘'83, received a master of science degree in library science from Clarion University of Pennsylvania in May 1985. He is currently working as a federal librarian at the Air University Library at Maxwell AFB, Al. Second Lt.Richard A. Burton, ‘80, has graduated from a Minuteman missile crew officer course at Vandenburg AFB, Ca. He will now serve at Grand Forks Air Base, N.D. Captain Daniel J. Hawks, ‘80, is currently serving as Chief, Logistics Division, with the 548th Reconnaissance Technical Group, Hickham AFB. Hi. He was recently awarded Company Grade Officer of the Year (1984) for his outstanding contribution to the group’s overall mission. Nielsen, ‘80, was recently appointed controlier of United Telephone Company of the Northwest, a subsidiary of United Telecommunications, Inc., a Fortune 300 company. He joined UTNW in May of as Cost Accounting Manager, coming from the accounting _ firm of Arthur Young and Company in Portland, Ore. He began his career with his father at Nielsen and Company in Ogden. James Hite, ‘80, recently moved to Tuscon, Az. from Colorado Springs, Co. to begin a new job with Hughs Aircraft. He has worked with Ampex Corp. in Colorado Springs since his graduation in 1980. He has traveled to Hong Kong and Yugoslavia for Ampex. Second Lt. Joseph B. Hunter, Jr., received the Golden Key Award for overcoming his disability and his example to others with similar difficulties from the Utah Governor's Committee on Employment of the Handicapped. '63 '69 William T. Wayment, '63, ‘64, received the Utah Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters Distinguished Teaching Award in Social Sciences May 3, 1985. The award was presented to two outstanding Utah high school teachers. \ The annual “Golden Key Award for Excellence in Educational Programming” was given to Weber State in recognition of the “open hour” program at a recent convention of over 400 delegates in Los Angeles. The award is given by the National Association of Campus Activities (NACA).
