Show 1942 1965 John A. Dixon was honored by the Utah Chapter of vic Piceuom Foul tion at Valley Forge. Dr. Dixon was cited for his work in the medical application of lasers and laser research, and for his contribution to the construction of the University of Utah Medical Center and the McKay Dee Hospital. He is a past dean of the University of Utah Medical School. Ross Robson has joined the evaluation team for the NASA Excellence Award for Quality and Productivity. He is the director of the Shingo Prize for Excellence in Manufacturing at Utah State University in Logan and director of USU’s Partners in Business program. He is also an associate dean of the College of Business and associate professor of human resources. 1948 1967 Kent L. Foutz has been appointed associate professor of marketing in the Dahlkemper School of Business at Gannon University in Erie, Penn. Dr. John C. Turpin was appointed in June as academic dean at Phillips Jr. College, at the Salt Lake City campus. fes9 1968 Mary Halverson received the Clinical Practice Leon Stanger is vice president of engineering at award from the Utah Nurses Association. The award recognizes excellence in nursing clinical practice and is given to one nurse in Utah each year. Ms. Halverson is a registered nurse at McKay-Dee Hospital Center and has worked there since 1960. She earned her associate degree at Weber State, her bachelor’s at the University of Utah and a master’s degree from Brigham Young University. Utah Scientific, a Dynatech Company, in Salt Lake City. In this position he will lead product development teams to develop products for the television broadcast industry. Mr. Stanger has worked in this industry for 22 years, at Harris Corp. and Grass Valley Group. He holds four patents. He and his wife, Lynda, live in Farmington, Utah. 1969 ar Darrell White recently stepped down as superintendent of Box Elder School District to accept a position with the Utah School Board Association. He will direct an insurance program offered to school district employees., He earned his doctorate degree at Utah State University, and has been principal of Roy High School in Roy, Utah. 1959 Leon Blake was named director of the Dayspring chemical dependency program at McKay-Dee Hospital Center. He earned his master’s degree from the University of Oregon and a doctorate from the University of Minnesota. He has worked as a counselor, and in teaching and administrative positions. 1962 Thomas R. Grimm is the founder and president of Price Savers Wholesale Warehouse. He was recently named one of 1989’s Top Ten Business Leaders by Utah Business magazine. He has been a divisional merchandise manager for Venture Stores, and vice president of marketing for a Boston drugstore chain, MediMart. Mr. Grimm was general merchandise manager for a Utah Grand Central store before opening Price Savers. He is a member of the Gore School of Business curriculum board at Westminster College in Salt Lake City, and serves as chairman of his legislative district in Bountiful. He was selected as an Outstanding Alumnus by WSC during its centennial year. He was named assistant director of the Andover Service Center in Massachusetts and held that post until his most recent assignment. He is a native of Sydney, Australia. Mary Spencer, Layton Utah High School college prep English teacher and Utah State University concurrent enrollment _ English teacher, was awarded a fellowship by the National Endowment for the Humanities to participate in the 1990 program of ~ Summer Seminars for Teachers. The five-week seminar, titled “Novels by | 9th Century British Women,” was held at Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio, with subsequent study in England. A small number of teachers are accepted by the National Endowment of the Humanities to receive stipends and participate in the program. Ms. Spencer earned her master’s degree from Utah State University and graduated summa cum laude. She is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, and received the “Teacher of the Year,” award for 1989-90, and the “Most Influential Teacher,” in 1988-89 and 1989-90. She is a member of the Davis School District team working with the Utah State Board of Education as a member of the Wasatch Front International Education Consortium. She is also the foreign exchange student advisor at Layton High School. Ms. Spencer has travelled and studied in South America, the Amazon River Basin, the Soviet Union, Europe, and the Middle East and was granted general education research status in the People’s Republic of China. She is currently working on her doctorate in English. 1972 Scott Parkinson was elected to the board of the Mountain States’ Association of Chambers of Commerce. Mr. Parkinson currently is the executive director of the Ogden/Weber Chamber of Commerce. f 1970 Paul A. Neuenschwander was named senior vice president of Uniwest. He joined the firm in 1973. Mr. Neuenschwander has also served as the president of United Savings Bank since 1984. Kent Bodin won two gold medals in the slalom and giant slalom at the 1990 International Police Winter Games held at Whistler Mountain near Vancouver, British Columbia. Mr. Bodin is currently the criminal investigator of the Ventura, Calif. County Public Social Services Agency. He competed in the California Police Winter Olympics in 1987 and 1989, and was a member of the WSC ski team. He and his wife, Denise, currently live in Ventura, Calif. Christina K. Suerdick earned a Master of Michael Macfarlane was named director of marketing and public relations at Humana Hospital Davis North in Utah. He has worked at McKay-Dee Hospital, Parkside Medical Services and Intermountain Health Care Behavioral Health. His new job entails marketing, communication, press relations and publications. 1963 Burke, VA. Lae 1973 Tom Stanger was elected vice-president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Utah during a Spring meeting. Mr. Stanger opened the Tom Stanger Insurance Agency in 1983 and operates two offices in the Ogden area. He started his career in 1985 with Metropolitan Life. Navy Commander Cary V. Voss Steve Porter was made vice president of the Ogdenbased United Savings Bank, Western Mortgage and Uniwest Service Corp. He was formerly director of education and training, and senior compliance officer. He joined the firm in.1976. He earned a master of business administration degree from Texas Tech University at Lubbock, Texas. 1964 recently assumed the duties of commanding officer of Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron—112, Naval Air Station, in San Diego, Calif. Voss’ previous assignments include executive officer, Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron; instructor, Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron; and flag officer promotion planning officer, Chief of Naval Operations, Washington D.C. He has also served aboard the aircraft carriers USS Coral Sea, USS Nimitz, and USS Ranger. He is a 1981 graduate of National University, San Diego, where he earned a master of business administration degree. He joined the Navy in 1972. Donald M. Layton has been promoted to assistant vice president and mortgage with the Mortgage Loan Division in the of First Security Bank of Utah. He was mortgage loan officer. He is a member Valley Home Builders Association. Divinity Degree from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. in May. She was ordained in June into the ministry of The United Methodist Church. She currently resides with her husband, Keith, in loan officer Provo branch formerly a of the Utah Pamela Wood Unternaehrer is currently attending the Thunderbird American Graduate School of International Management in Glendale Arizona. Robert J. Carver was recently appointed director of the Returns Processing and Accounting Division at the Internal Revenue Service’s Ogden Service Center. Mr. Carver began his IRS career in 1967, and has held management positions in the returns processing and 1974 Howard G. Noel has been appointed Director of Public Relations at Primary Children’s Medical Center. Prior to his present appointment Mr. Noel was Director of News and Public Information at Weber State College, a position he held since 1980. Mr. Noel has worked as Northern Utah Bureau Chief for KSL Television. He has also served as news director for KLO and KANN radio stations in Ogden. He is chairman of the Weber County Board of Zoning Adjustment, a member of the Clearfield Job Corps Community Relations Council, and past chairman of the Weber Vocational Workshop Board of Trustees.
