He has been manager of internal audit, corporate controller and vice president of administrative services/ loan servicing manager. Alumnews Homecoming 1990: “U"p here we being The classes of 1940 and 1965 will hold reunions during this year’s homecoming activities set for Oct. 20-27. The reunions, scheduled for Oct. 26 to coincide with the annual Alumni Banquet, ~ are part of a week-long list of activities which includes the traditional family night, a day-long carnival, dedication of the new addition to the Swenson Physical Education Building, a 5K race, parade, football game and other events. He is married to the former Mary Germer, class of ‘69, and they are the parents of six children. We wish him well in his new assignment.) 1980 Shelley Clarke was elected first vice chairman of the board of trustees of Enable Industries of Ogden. She works as the vice president of marketing for Goldenwest Credit Union. David R. Lane is the newly installed president of the Utah Chiropractic Association. He was vice president for 1989 and has been on the board of directors for seven years. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Utah Chiropractic Association in 1987 and 1988. Mr. Lane has an office in Brigham City and is board eligible as a chiropractic orthopedist with the American Board of Chiropractic Orthopedists. 1976 Beth Pierce Shumaker has graduated from Evergreen State College in Olympia, Wash. with a bachelor’s degree and received a teaching certificate from Western Washington University in June. She resides in Belfair, Wash. with her husband and four children. Craig S. Ogan was named executive vice president of Gardiner, a marketing company. He will continue to serve as Gardiner’s director of © client services and managing director of the agency’s public relations affiliate. Mr. Ogan has worked in communications, advertising and public relations for 16 years, and is a past president of the Utah Advertising Federation. He is an accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America. He serves on the YMCA’s board of directions and is on a number of Chamber of Commerce committees in Salt Lake City. Art Terkelson recently received world-wide recognition from the military for his investigative work both in and out of the military. He was named the Outstanding Officer of Special Investigations Worldwide. Mr. Terkelson is a reservist assigned to the Air Force’s Office of Special Investigations. Air Force commanders from all parts of the world selected Mr. Terkelson as the person who had done the most for reserves, the Air Force and his community during 1989. He received the award at a banquet in Washington D.C. One of his most publicized cases was the recovery of three F-16 engines and hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of government property during “Operation Punchout.” Mr. Terkelson works in the Weber State criminology laboratory. Ronald B. King was elected president of the Northern Chapter of the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants. He is the Weber County Human Services Administration controller and has been involved in public and governmental accounting since 1974. L. Terry Flitton was named manager of the Layton office of Community First Bank at the Layton Hills Mall in Layton, Utah. Prior to that he was manager of the real estate department at the bank’s main office. Clark Baron was recently selected by the Utah State School Board Association as the state’s Urban Outstanding High School Teacher for 1990. Mr. Baron teaches electronics, technology and math in the vocation department at Provo High School. Last year he was recognized as the 1989 Teacher of the Year for Provo School District. He is in his second year as president of the state organization of electronics teachers and has served as the high school representative on the National Audio Board of the Electronic Industries Association. 5 M. Diane Calloway received a doctorate degree in social work from the University of Utah in June. She had previously earned a master’s degree from the University of Utah. Ms. Calloway is currently in the social work department at Utah State University. Robin K. Nalder recently received his juris doctor degree from Ohio Northern University. 1977 Michael E. Hadley was recently promoted to Jan W. Sawdey was named marketing coordinator for the McKay-Dee Institute for Behavioral Medicine in Ogden. She was previously outreach coordinator for Charter Summit Hospital in Salt Lake City, as referral development coordinator for McKay-Dee behavioral health services, and Dayspring chemical dependency program. In addition, Ms. Sawdey has worked as a marketing communications manager and photographer/ journalist for St. Benedict’s Hospital. manager of the Kaysville branch of First Security Bank of Utah. He was formerly assistant manager. Lynda Davis is a project leader at Smith’s Food and Drug, Inc. corporate office in Salt Lake City. She received a master’s of software design and development from Texas Christian University in 1986. Brian E. Marston was recently promoted to senior quality control officer in the Salt Lake Area Mortgage Division of First Security Bank of Utah. He was formerly a manager in the Mortgage Production Center in Layton, Utah. | She is a certified data processor. 1978 Douglas B. Thomas earned his juris doctor’s degree from the University of Utah. He received his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Utah and is an associate with the law firm of Van Cott, Bagley, Cornwall and McCarthy. Lee Forsgren graduated from George Mason University College of Law with a juris doctor’s degree. Mr. Forsgren is employed as assistant legal counsel for the United States House of Representatives Interior Committee in Washington D.C. He received his bachelor of science degree from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. He and his wife, Janet, live in Alexandria, Va. Rodney W. Wright graduated from the Naval School of Photography at the Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla. He studied still photography and motion picture photography. Val R. Bitton has been elected a member of the Deloitte & Touche accounting and auditing, tax and management consulting services. Mr. Bitton joined the firm in 1979. He earned his master’s degree in public accounting from the University of Utah. He most recently completed a two-year assignment in the firm’s New York City executive office. Mr. Bitton now works in the Salt Lake City, Utah office. 1979 Kurt Moore won the Utah Long Drive Golf Championship with a state-record drive of 393 yards. That shot entitled him to advance to the District 9 competition scheduled as part of the Showdown Classic Senior PGA Tournament at Jeremy Ranch. Dorcas G. Johnson has become a shareholder in the law firm of Van Cott, Bagley, Cornwall and McCarthy. Ms. Johnson graduated from the university of Utah College of Law. Ms. Johnson was also recently elected to the Board of Directors of the Northern Utah Group of Robert Morris Associates, the national association of bank loan and credit officers. Ms. Johnson is the vice president in the Ogden office of Key Bank of Utah. S. Neal Berube d ior vice president and Peter Charles Fawson currently works as an elementary principal in Nebo School District in Utah. He earned master’s and educational specialist degrees from Brigham Young University. Recently he was selected as a doctoral student in education leadership at Brigham Young University. He, his wife and their seven children reside in Springville, Utah. 1981 James M. Alvey was named director of public relations and advertising for Northern Utah and Wyoming for Intermountain Health Care. In his new position he is responsible for public relations at McKay-Dee Hospital Center, Logan Regional Hospital and Bear River Valley Hospital in Northern Utah. He will also direct public relations for IHC Evanston Regional Hospital and Star Valley Hospital in Wyoming. Prior to his new assignment he was director of public relations at McKay-Dee. Mr. Alvey has also worked as coordinator of school services for WSC. William Evan Johnson received a master’s degree in elementary education from Utah State University. Sheldon A. Smith has joined the administrative office management team of Coldwell Banker Premier, Inc. as general counsel and vice president of finance. He received his juris doctor degree in 1986 from Brigham Young University where he was honored with the Student Award in Taxation from the BYU J. Reuben Clark Law School. Before joining Coldwell Banker Premier Smith was associated with the law firm of Fabian & Clendenin in Salt Lake city. He previously worked as a certified public accountant at Deloitte Haskins & Sells in Salt Lake City from 1981 to 1983. Brent E. Lotz was elected president-elect of the Northern Chapter of the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants. He is the audit and accounting manager with the public accounting firm of Schmitt, Griffiths, Smith, Haws & Co. in Ogden. Jeff K. Thredgold has been named senior vice president and chief economist for KeyCorp, a New York-based holding company. Mr. Thredgold earned a master’s degree from the University of Utah and has |
