Show 12 Housing and Residence Life Location: Promontory Tower, Main Floor Telephone: 626-7275 Director: Mark McGuire The Department of Housing and Residence Life manages four residence halls and a dining center on the Weber State campus. All of these facilities are clustered on the south side of campus convenient to classes, recreational areas, and commercial developments. There are a variety of economical room styles and meal plans available to residential students. Programs and events addressing a wide variety of interests are offered on a continuous basis. Information and Technology Location: Student Service Center, Room 169 Telephone: 626-7521 Director: Louis Barraza Information and Technology provides technology information within Student Services and directs research for Student Development and information evaluation. Learning Center Location: Science Lab, Room 228 and Social Science, Room 38 Telephone: SL - 626-7955, SS - 626-6598 Director: SL - Jeanne Pierce, SS - Becky Sneddon Learning Center services are designed to assist students in achieving their academic goals. Services provided include academic tutoring, module reading programs, and the use of educational equipment such as computer terminals, video and audio tape players, copier and faculty reserve materials. Learning Support Center and Trio Programs Location: Student Service Center, Room 272 Telephone: 626-6870 Director: Don Jensen The mission of the Learning Support Center and TRIO Programs is to assist students in completing their educational goals through the development of effective learning and reasoning processes, appropriate self-management behaviors, and meaningful life skills. These programs include Assessment and Placement, Supplemental Instruction (SI), Tutoring Services, Student Support Services (SSS), Technological Support Services (TSS), Upward Bound Support Services, Veterans Affairs and Veterans Upward Bound Support Services. Research Support Services (RSS) Location: Education Building, Room 11A-C moving to Student Service Center, Room 219 Telephone: 626-6552 Coordinator: Marilyn Olsen RSS is responsible for tracking and managing the exiting process for students who pay the developmental fee. All data management in the Student Development division is maintained by this unit. Retention Assistance/Information Location: Student Service Center, Room 150 Telephone: 626-6082 Director: Alan J. Dayley, Ph.D. Offering assistance and information to students with regard to: • Withdrawing from the university • Preparing university policy waivers • Resolving university related problems • Referring to other student services departments • Researching retention strategies • Exiting the developmental fee • Walter C. Swanson nontraditional scholarships • Pinnacle nontraditional honor society • Association of Nontraditional Students (ANTS) Services for International Students Location: Student Service Center, Room 143 Telephone: 626-6853 Director: Diann Stewart This office offers help to international students in their adjustment to new and unfamiliar living and learning situations. Students can get information and counseling about academic, cultural, personal/social, and financial as well as immigration concerns. The office also provides orientation programs and planned activities to help international students have a satisfying university experience as well as to achieve personal and academic success. Services for Multicultural Students Center Location: Student Service Center, Room 150 Telephone: 626-7330 Coordinator: Jeffrey Simons The Multicultural Center, in close cooperation with other academic and student assistance departments of the university, provides minority students academic and financial support in addition to job placement assistance. Leadership training, tutoring and scholarship information are available through the Center. Follow-up assistance is provided to help students with their academic and personal needs. Services for Students with Disabilities Location: Student Service Center, Room 181 Telephone: 626-6413 Director: LaMar Kap Physically challenged and learning disabled students are eligible for specialized support services provided through this office. Service programs may include reading for the visually impaired, note taking and interpreting for the hearing impaired, and scribe services for the mobility impaired. Other services include registration assistance, specialized tutoring, counseling, academic advisement, and personal development programs. Services for Women Students Location: Student Service Center, Room 150 Telephone: 626-6090 Coordinator: Margarita Guerra Services of this Center are designed to provide a supportive environment to help students returning to pursue their education, meet challenges, establish objectives, and achieve their academic goals. The following services, programs, and workshops are offered Weber State University 13 to assist students: advisement, academic and personal counseling, life transition skills workshops, seminars, scholarships, and emergency contact services. Shepherd Union Information and Business Services Location: Shepherd Union, Room 230, Main Floor Telephone: 626-7256 Director: Michael Ellis Information and Business Services provide information about all the programs and special events that take place in the Union. Student housing payments, WSU ID cards, event tickets, campus maps, vending and locker refunds, and lost and found items are among the many additional services provided. General information is also available on the variety of other services provided in the Shepherd Union, including conference rooms, Wildcat Theater, dining services, student activity center, and Wildcat Lanes. Skills Enhancement Center Location: Annex 12 Telephone: 626-7941 Site Manger: Maxine Curtis The Skills Enhancement Center provides one-on-one tutoring and support for all students enrolled in the developmental program for English 096 and Math 095/096 classes. The Center also offers a computer lab for students' use and assistance with basic computer skills. The instruction is free of charge, with no appointment necessary. Tutors are available Monday-Friday, 8:30-4:30. Student Activities Location: Department of Student Activities Shepherd Union, Second Level Telephone: 626-6349 Director: Judy Hurst The Department of Student Activities is dedicated to the personal growth and development of students. This department has responsibility for the following: The Associated Students of Weber State University (ASWSU), Student Senate, Campus Activities Board (CAB), Student Community Service Learning Programs, Volunteer Involvement Programs (VIP), the Association for Registered Organizations (ARO), Student Leadership Development programs, Greek Life (fraternities & sororities), Family Concerts, Open Hour & Convocations, START (co-curricular transcript program), and College Bowl. An experiential environment for learning and practicing "life skills" is provided by empowering students and providing opportunities for leadership and personal development and service. Through participation in educational, social, cultural and recreational programs, Student Activities seeks to expand and enrich the entire campus and local community. Student Health Center Location: Student Service Center, Room 190 Telephone: 626-6459 - SHC office 626-7924 -Pharmacy (11:30 a.m. -1:30 p.m.) Director: Juliana Larsen The Student Health Center provides medical care for minor illnesses, immunizations, and some laboratory tests on a walk-in basis. The Health Center is staffed with a board certified physician, registered nurses, a medical technologist, and pharmacist. A podiatrist is available on a referral basis. The physician is available from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Student Pharmacy is open Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Student Support Services (SSS) Location: Student Service Center, Room 277 Telephone: 626-7009 Coordinator: Morteza Emami Students who receive financial aid may take advantage of the following educational support services from this office: 1) Diagnostic evaluation of basic skills, 2) Basic skills instruction (one- to-one), 3) Tutoring for most academic courses, 4) Career and life goals exploration, 5) Learning skills development, and 6) Self- esteem and motivational workshops. Staff: Leslie Loefffel, Leslie Mancini, Betty Adams Supplemental Instruction provides opportunities for students in specific freshman level courses as designated in the class schedule. Students may participate in learning teams where they explore concepts and solve problems through group discussion and interaction as directed by a student team leader who has successfully completed the course. Technological Support Services (TSS) Location: Student Service Center, Room 266 Telephone: 626-7414 Coordinator: Jim Felt TSS is a research, development and support unit designed to assist students to make successful use of computer technology. This office also supports computer technology programs that assist high risk students in the development of persistence in their course work and at the institution. Testing Center Location: Student Service Center, Room 262 Telephone: Student Service Center, Room 262, 626-6803 Social Science Center, Room 36, 626-6847 Natural Science Center, Room 228, 626-7019 Davis Center, Room 18, 626-7795 Director: Wayne Flitton The Testing Center offers a variety of standardized tests for the purpose of placement into appropriate courses, admission to academic programs, assistance in choosing a career or major, and assistance with college or personal adjustment. Tests are also administered for various academic departments on campus and for Independent Study courses. Tutoring Services Location: Student Service Center, Room 260 Telephone: 626-7207 Coordinator: Lynnae Dopp Tutoring Services provides free one-on-one learning assistance by certified tutors for certain lower division courses.
