Show 22 TRANSFER STUDENTS Students who have attended another college or university after high school graduation will be considered transfer students. Application Steps for Transfer Student Admission 1. Submit an application for admission. 2. Pay the application fee. 3. Submit an official transcript from each college or university previously attended. The transcript must be sent directly from the prior school to the WSU Admissions Office. 4. Students with less than 45 quarter credit hours (30 semester hours) need to submit a high school transcript and ACT, SAT or placement test scores. All of these tests are available at the WSU Testing Center in the Student Service Center, (801) 626-6803 or 1-800-848-7770 ext. 6803. Upon receipt of the above materials, your application will be considered as follows. Admission Requirements Students with less than 45 credit hours Students who have completed less than 45 credit hours (30 semester hours) will be considered for admission on the same basis as new freshmen, and should complete the requirements as listed in the previous section. Students with more than 45 credit hours Students transferring to Weber State with 45 quarter hours or more (30 semester hours) will be considered for admission on the basis of the following criteria. 1. Students who have completed an associate degree earned at an accredited institution will be admitted to the University tier provided they have a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or above. 2. Students without an associate degree will be admitted to the University tier if they have a cumulative GPA of 2.25 or above. 3. Students without an associate degree and a cumulative GPA of 2.00 to 2.24 will be admitted to the General College tier. Transfer applicants with a cumulative GPA below 2.00 will be referred to the Admission Committee and may be considered for admission to WSU on warning or probation according to the current Academic Standards policy. TRANSFER CREDIT Students transferring to Weber State with an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science degree earned at any institution within the Utah System of Higher Education, or Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, will be considered as having met the Weber State general education requirements. Students transferring from a USHE institution, after having met that institution's general education requirements, will be considered as having satisfied the Weber State general education requirements if the registrar at that institution will certify that the student transferring has completed all general education requirements. Credit for courses numbered 100 or above earned in the Utah System of Higher Education is transferrable within the System and will be carried on the student's transcript by Weber State. Credit for these courses, however, may not apply towards certain degree requirements. General Education credit for students transferring from accredited colleges outside the Utah System of Higher Education will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Special Admissions Programs Summer Enrichment for High School Juniors Qualified high school students who have completed their junior year may apply for admission to Weber State University's summer quarter courses. Students accepted for the Summer Enrichment Program are allowed to carry a full academic load but are advised not to register for courses which will be duplicated during their senior year. Applicants must meet current GPA requirements. More information about this program can be obtained from the Early College Office, Promontory Tower, room 420, phone (801) 626-7362. High school counselors can also assist interested students and provide application materials. Early College for High School Juniors and Seniors In cooperation with local school districts Weber State has designed an Early College Program to give high school juniors and seniors an opportunity to participate in the college environment while continuing with their high school courses and activities. Students can earn up to a full year of college credit while completing high school graduation requirements. The Early College program is designed for students who are seeking additional challenges and academic enrichment. International Students International applicants with no prior college or university credit will be considered for admission by submitting evidence of U.S. equivalent high school graduation with a cumulative grade point average equal to, or higher than, the U.S. equivalent of 2.50. International students must submit the following documents at least 60 days prior to the start of the quarter in which they plan to enroll: 1. An application for admission. 2. A $35 non-refundable application fee. 3. Official transcripts in English showing degrees, diplomas, and certificates received from each secondary school, college, or university attended. Transfer applicants from U.S. colleges must have attended the prior college or university for at least one quarter or semester and must meet current transfer student admission requirements. 4. Evidence of English proficiency. English proficiency may be satisfied by presenting a TOEFL score of 500 or above. Test results should be sent directly from The College Board to the Admissions Office. International students transferring from another college or university who have not completed the equivalent of Weber State's English 111 College Writing course with a grade of C or better and do not have a TOEFL score will be assigned to the Weber State English as a Second Language Program (ESL). 5. A financial statement indicating the availability of at least $15,000 for school and living expenses during the first year at Weber State, and adequate funds for the full length of time of anticipated enrollment. 6. An immunization form signed by a health care provider showing current evidence of immunity from DPT, MMR, and Tuberculosis. International students must attend every quarter and take at least 12 credit hours each quarter. All international students are required to meet with the International Student Advisor immediately after arriving on campus to receive individualized briefing and academic advice. The International Student Adviser gives assistance to students in meeting U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service Weber State University 23 requirements concerning visas, passports, permits, permission to work, and related matters. Students are also assisted in making academic, social, and environmental adjustments to campus and community life. Insurance Requirement International students must carry the WSU student insurance each term unless they can submit evidence of independent coverage. Senior Citizen Admission and Registration Utah residents age 62 and over are permitted to enroll, if space is available, on a tuition-free, audit basis. Senior citizens will be required to complete an application for admission. They will be required to pay a $10 per quarter administrative fee. Where applicable, senior citizens will be charged a fee for use of consumable materials. Senior Citizens must register at the Registration Office on or after the first day of class. Graduate Applicants Weber State University offers a graduate program leading to a Master's Degree in Education (M.Ed.) and a Master's Degree in Professional Accountancy (MPAcc). Detailed information concerning admission to these programs is located within the College of Education and the College of Business & Economics sections of this catalog. Students are encouraged to contact these departments for application forms and additional information. Utah Residency The Admissions Office classifies all applicants as either resident or non-resident. Applicants whose credentials indicate out-of-state status are classified as non-residents. If there is doubt concerning resident status, an applicant is classified as a non-resident. Non-residents who have reason to believe they can qualify for resident status should file a petition with the Admissions Office before registering. The deadline for residency application is the Friday prior to the start of school each quarter. Applications not on fie, with all necessary supporting documents, by the deadline, will be considered for residency status for the next quarter. Residency applications are available in the Admissions Office. Each application will be considered in accordance with the provisions of Utah Code Annotated 53B-8-102 and Utah State Board of Regents Policy and Procedures R-512. Student Recruitment Services Admissions Advisors: Kristen Olsen, Hubert Williams, and John Allred Location: Student Service Center, Room 210 Telephone: (801) 626-6050 The Office of Student Recruitment Services is the liaison between prospective students and the University. Staff from this office visit high schools and community colleges within the state and selected schools in neighboring states. These visits are used to inform potential students, educators, and parents of the educational programs and opportunities available at Weber State University. Campus visits may be scheduled through the Office of Student Recruitment Services. Orientation Academic Advisement Center Location: Student Service Center, Room 140 Telephone: (801) 626-6752 or 7913 The Academic Advisement Center offers advising and orientation for all Weber State University students. All new and transfer students are required to attend an orientation session. During the orientation, the academic advisors and orientation leaders acquaint new students with campus policies and procedures and assist them in registering for their first quarter. New and transfer students should call the Academic Advisement Center immediately upon notification of admission to schedule an orientation appointment. Financial Aid Location: Student Service Center, Room 120 Telephone: 626-7131 Director: Richard Effiong The Financial Aid Program, consisting of grants, loans, and opportunities to work, was established to assist students in achieving educational goals. General Eligibility Requirements • Meet the admissions requirements of WSU as a "matriculated" student. Conditional admission does not qualify for federal aid. • Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a program that leads to a degree or certificate at WSU. • Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or other eligible non- citizen. • Be registered with the Selective Service, if required. • Sign a Statement of Educational Purpose/Certification outlining refund and default penalties. • Be in good standing (not in default) on any student loan, federal loan or grant, or have borrowed student loans within the annual limits. • Maintain satisfactory academic standing. (See Satisfactory Progress on following page) • Have a correct Social Security Number. • Mail Financial Aid Transcripts from previously attended colleges and/or universities directly to WSU Financial Aid Office. Types of Financial Aid Available at WSU Grants/Gifts: Grants are gifts that do not have to be repaid if satisfactory academic progress is maintained. All grants require a minimum GPA of 2.0 by the end of the second year whether attending full- or part-time. The types of grants available are: - Federal Pell Grants - Federal SEOG - Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant - SSIG - State Student Incentive Grant Available for Utah resident undergraduate students only.
