Teaching majors must also achieve an overall GPA of 3.00 for admission to the Teacher Education program. » Credit Hour Requirements: A total of 183 credit hours is required for either the Choral or Instrumental Emphasis— a minimum of 97 credit hours is required within the major for the Choral Emphasis and a minimum of 95 credit hours is required within the major for the Instrumental Emphasis. A total of 194 credit hours is required for either the Choral/Instrumental or Instrumental/Choral Emphasis— a minimum of 108 credit hours is required within the major for the Choral/Instrumental Emphasis and a minimum of 106 credit hours is required within the major for the Instrumental/Choral Emphasis. A total of 60 upper division credit hours is required (courses numbered 300 and above) — 33-48 of these are required within the major. Advisement The advisor for the Composite Music Education Teaching Major is Dr. Paul Joines in BC 333. Students should plan to meet with Dr. Joines prior to registering for courses within this program. Call 626- 6441 for more information or to schedule an appointment. Teaching majors are encouraged to also consult with advisors in the College of Education (call 626-6269). Admission Requirements Declare your program of study (refer to page 30 of this catalog). Teaching majors must meet the Teacher Education admission and certification requirements (see Teacher Education Department in this catalog). Core and General Education Refer to pages 32-36 of this catalog for either Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts requirements. CS PD101 or TBE PD170 will fulfill both the computer course requirement for this major and General Education requirements. Psych SS101 is recommended. Refer to the preceding pages of this catalog for Music area procedures and policies. A student must be enrolled in Group Keyboard Instruction classes or private piano lessons until piano proficiency is passed.
