Show 116 117 D. Student admittance to each competency level is granted only by general consent of the area faculty upon satisfactory completion of a performance level evaluation appropriate to that level. E. Refusal by the appropriate area faculty to allow admittance to the next level may be appealed by the student provided there is consent of the private teacher. 1. This appeal should be made directly to the area head, who will in turn consult with the faculty regarding a repeat performance evaluation. 2. Only one appeal will be accepted at each performance evaluation. F. More than 5 quarters of study at any one competency level due to lack of improvement on the part of the student will be cause for a recommendation from the appropriate faculty that the student not continue as a music major or minor. G. Failure to attend proficiency evaluations will result in a grade of "E" being given for the private lesson during that quarter. Recital Performance A. All music majors and minors must participate in at least one general student recital per quarter. This should normally be a solo appearance, but this determination is left to the discretion of the teacher. B. All junior music majors and music minors must present a half- hour formal recital. C. A music major or minor presenting a junior recital must be at the 300 competency level. The student must register for Music 399 during the quarter the recital will be presented. D. All music majors must present a one-hour senior recital while at the 400 competency level. The student must register for Music 499 during the quarter the recital will be presented. Composite music education majors must present a recital that includes approximately 40 minutes of performance in the major area and 20 minutes in the minor area and must be at the 400 competency level in the major area and at least at the 300 competency level in the minor area. E. Repertoire for the senior recital must not contain music performed on the junior recital. F. Completion of a senior recital will exempt a student from further proficiency level evaluations but not from continued private study. G. All students presenting a senior recital must perform that recital before a faculty review committee not less than two weeks prior to the recital date. The review committee will consist of the student's applied teacher, the appropriate area head, and one other faculty member of the student's choice. The committee for a composite music education major must include both applied teachers, both area heads, and one other faculty member. Separate previews may be conducted for the two areas. H. A faculty committee selected by the area director will be present at the public performance of the senior recital and will recommend pass/fail of the recital. I. No junior or senior recitals may be presented from May 1 to the end of the spring quarter exam period. The senior recital must be completed prior to May 1 for a spring graduation and at least one month prior to graduation in any other quarter. J. All students must complete a recital approval form for junior or senior recitals. The senior recital form must be completed and signed by the music advisor and applied teacher teacher prior to scheduling the faculty review performance. Recital/Concert Attendance All music majors and minors must attend 24 music area recitals, concerts, and/or community concert events per year while enrolled in Music 179 or 279. Students whose private lesson fees are paid by the department must also attend 24 recitals and concerts per year while fees are paid. Attendance reports are required for two years and are maintained in the music office. Piano Proficiency All music majors and minors must audition to be placed into the piano proficiency curriculum. It is suggested that the requirements for piano proficiency be completed by the end of the student's sophomore year.
