Within the College of Education, the Department of Health Promotion and Human Performance (HPHP) offers educational opportunities in the areas of exercise, health education, nutrition, physical education and coaching. In addition, HPHP offers undergraduate and graduate programs for the Department of Teacher Education and the Master's Program in Education, as well as supports Weber State University and community wellness related activities. Students interested in professional career preparation may emphasize in: athletics, physical education, recreation, health promotion, coaching, and lifestyle management. In addition, special preparation may be obtained by designing a general studies (B.I.S.) program. MISSION STATEMENT The Department of Health Promotion and Human Performance supports and enhances the mission of the University by promoting and integrating into the University experience the applied sciences of exercise, physical education, sport, health, and nutrition through effective and impactful instruction, scholarship and service. This may be accomplished by preparing individuals to maintain, enhance, and manage human performance and quality of life among those clients seeking professional preparation or personal service through our programs. Lifestyle Management Major BACHELOR DEGREE » Program Prerequisite: Application and acceptance into the Lifestyle Management Program (see Admission Requirements below). » Minor: Not required. » Grade Requirements: A GPA of 2.75 or higher in all courses required for this major. No more than one "D" is acceptable. The overall GPA must be 2.00 or better. » Credit Hour Requirements: A total of 183 credit hours is required for graduation — no more than 85 hours for the major will be accepted from courses in the Department of HPHP. A total of 60 upper division credit hours is required (courses numbered 300 and above). Advisement All Lifestyle Management students are encouraged to meet with a faculty advisor at least annually for course and program advisement. Call 626-6742 for more information or to schedule an appointment. Admission Requirements Declare your program of study (refer to page 30 of this catalog). The following prerequisite courses must be completed with a GPA of 3.0 prior to making application for the Lifestyle Management program: PE 220, Health 310, Nutri PD105, TBE PD170, Engl 111/ 112, and Math 103/104.
