Basic Skills for Elementary Teachers (4) The introductory WILKITS in several of the teaching areas including language arts, art, music, audio-visual skills, tutoring, and educational psychology. Teaching Reading in the Primary Grades (3) Analysis of developmental reading skills with emphasis on readiness for reading, phonic and structural analysis, word recognition, use of the basal reader, and reading for various purposes. Prerequisite: Education 321 or equivalent. 340. Word Recognition Skills (Formerly Teaching Reading in the Intermediate Grades) (3) Understanding and teaching word recognition skills, wtih emphasis on phonic analysis skills, structural analysis skills, dictionary skills, and spelling. Methods of Teaching in Secondary Schools (3) Instruction and experience in organizing and directing classroom learning activities. Teaching Reading in Secondary Schools (3) Basic principles of reading instruction; nature and scope of the total reading program; methods, materials and organization of the developmental and corrective reading program in the secondary schools. Diagnosis of Learning Skills (3) Analysis and diagnosis of learning difficulties with an emphasis on reading problems. This course will include an introduction to diagnoses of complex learning disabilties. Prerequisite: At least one course in the teaching of reading, or instructor's consent. AWS 466. Teaching Remedial Reading (3) Principles and techniques of remediation with an introducton to the treatment of complex learning disabilities. Prerequisite: Education 465 or instructor's consent. School Organization, Management and Law (3) Organization and administration of educational programs, with emphasis on human relations, interaction and attention to our present legal system. Prerequisite: Education 488 or 495. A W S 472. Simulation and Games (2 or 3) Instruction in the design and use of original simulations and games. Commonly offered in a workshop setting. Two hours of credit upon completion of the workshop and one additional hour for a personal project approved by the director. 473. Individualization of Instruction (3) Provides basic assumptions', principles and conditions, methods, and classroom organization and management for individualizing instruction. Usually offered in a workshop setting. 475. Aerospace Education (3) Concerned with knowledge, skills attitudes and communication about aerospace activity, and the impact of air and space vehicles upon society, Su 476. Advanced Aerospace Education (3) Develops an understanding of the political, economic, social and educational implications of aerospace technology. Su 482. Adult Education (3) A survey course in adult education with emphasis on philosophy, principles, and practices as evidenced in programs of various adult education organizations. Prerequisites: Professional education coursework, teaching experience, or approval of the instructor. 483. Individually Prescribed Program (1-9) Designed primarily for teachers fulfilling recerti-fication requirements or personal needs. AWS Su 484. Practicum in Instructional Media Services <*> Supervised experience in an operating instructional media center. A minimum of two clock hours per day in actual on-sight activity is required. In addition to the field experience, four modules are included in the requirements for this course: oral activities, reading guidance, evaluation of IMC operation, and personnel supervision. Application for the practicum experience must be made at least one quarter in advance. Prerequisite: Education 361 or its equivalent. A W S Su 485. Supervision of Student Teachers (3) The cooperating teacher-student teacher relationship and the factors and conditions' that contribute to successful student teaching experiences. 486. Practicum in Learning Skills (3-9) Working with children having learning difficulties. Prerequisites: Education 465 and 466, and instructor's consent. A W S Su 487. Directed Experiences with Students (1) Directed experiences with elementary and secondary school students in cooperating schools. Students may register for one unit of credit per quarter for a maximum of three quarter hours. A W S 488. Teaching Practicum in Elementary Education (15) A concentrated one-week preparation session followed by a school assignment where all prior aspects of the students training are tried in the actual classroom and checked for effectiveness. WILKITS on professionalism and psychology of learning are included with this experience. AWS 492. International Aerospace Education Workshop (15) A non-technical approach to aviation, space, and American and international power. Lectures and symposia by internationally known leaders in education, social science, military and world affairs. An individual journal will be developed based on lecture notes, readings, observations, and experiences. Summer only. European tour (9) World tour (15) 493. Outdoor Educational Workshop (3) A broad inter-disciplinary approach to the methodology of outdoor education teaching techniques. Su 495. Teaching Practicum in Secondary Education (15) A one-week preparation session followed by an experience in a public school assignment. WILKITS on related areas are to be taken concurrently with the field assignment. Prerequisite: Education 355. AWS 496. Processes of Instructional Design (5) A systematic approach to solving instructional problems through the development of goals, objectives, instructional strategies and field testing of instructional product's.
