Show SCHOOL OF NATURAL SCIENCES Garth L. Welch, Dean The School of Natural Sciences offers a comprehensive program encompassing the biological, earth, and physical sciences. In the departments of Botany Chemistry, Geology-Geography, Microbiology, Physics, and Zoology, students prepare for vocations and employment as well as for graduate and professional schools. These departments also offer courses in General Education to give students from all schools at Weber State a broad knowledge and appreciation for the role of science in daily living. Students completing baccalaureate programs in the School of Natural Sciences may receive either the bachelor of arts degree or the bachelor of science degree. It is necessary that they complete the specific course and area requirements as listed in the initial section of this catalog and also complete a major and minor selected from the following listings: Majors Botany Chemistry Geography Geology Microbiology Applied Physics Physics Zoology Teaching Majors Botany Chemistry Earth Science Composite Geography Life Science Composite Physical Science Composite (including Mathematics) Physics Zoology Minors Botany Chemistry Geography Geology Microbiology Physics Zoology Teaching Minors Botany Chemistry Geography Geology Physics Zoology Pre-Professional Programs Pre-Medicine Pre-Dentistry Pre-Veterinary Medicine Students planning to major or minor in the School of Natural Sciences should contact the appropriate department for assistance in planning their program. The details of the requirements for all of these majors and minors are listed with the respective departments. Students completing the teaching majors or teaching minors will also work closely with the School of Education. Students planning to pursue pre-professional programs should complete a major and minor from the above list and also fill the applicable requirements listed with the description in the Department of Zoology. 145 |
