Show Technology Food Distribution FOOD SERVICE OPTION The food service area is designed to prepare men and women for employment in the major areas of restaurant administration. It is designed to train the student for the preparation and service of food; including, sanitation, menu planning, storeroom operation, food service consultant, and restaurant accounting. Students will supplement their work in theory with practical experience in the college kitchens and dining rooms. Additional practical experience is provided through on-the-job training in the local food establishments. The program is designed to prepare men and women for employment in the major area of home decorating as a furnishing consultant, interior designer, or salesman in a furniture store. The training and preparation for this program include: designing fabrics, layout for interiors, color and textile relationships of fabrics, perspective drawing of interiors, business practices and apprenticeship in the area of interior design. Students thus supplement their work in theory with practical experience in a local store in the area. This on-the-job training will be provided only after the student has demonstrated a degree of competency in the field. The training in preparation for this field includes buying, office manager, merchandise clerk, sales manager, credit manager and/or advertising office manager. Students, supplement their work in theory with practical on-the-job training in local business establishments. SALES AND RETAILING OPTION The sales and retail merchandising area of Distributive Education is designed to prepare men and women for employment in various capacities in the major areas of Direct Sales and Retail Merchandising; including training for salesman, (auto, insurance, real estate, etc.); retail trade areas (salesmen, buyers, sales promoters, and advertising); mid-management areas of sales managers, buying managers, credit managers and wholesale managers. Students will supplement their work in theory with practical on-the-job training in local business establishments receiving up to 9 hours of credit for their work experience.
