Show Technology Utah Skills Center North Pre-Apprenticeship in Masonry At the end of this training, the students are qualified to enter the bricklaying trade at the home-building level. COURSES OF INSTRUCTION V0074. Bricklaying I (1-9) This is an introductory course designed to teach the tools and equipment use in the bricklaying trade. The student will learn to spread mortar, lay block to line, and build corners, using different size blocks. V0075. Bricklaying II (1-9) This course mainly concentrates on the use of bricklaying in home construction. It deals with spreading mortar, laying brick to line, building brick corners, laying sills and other types of bricklaying commonly used in brick veneering. V0076. Bricklaying III (1-9) This course offers more advanced skills needed to enter into commercial work. This will include laying both brick and block and will concentrate in over-the-wall techniques used in commercial construction. V0021. Exploring Building Trades (1-9) A short term class designed to expose the students to the overall field of Building Trades. The student will get practical experience in any trade available to determine his interest and general ability. V0022., General Building Trades (1-9) A practical course involving the student in the practical application of the building trades. This will be accomplished with the on-the-job training where the student will learn remodeling techniques in old and new construction. V0023. Cabinet Making and Application (1-9) A training program in basic Cabinet construction utilizing common hand tools and power machines. Emphasis on new construction using both modern and traditional approaches in the construction of kitchen, bathroom, and commercial furnishings. (5-3 hours/week) V0024. Masonry and Application (1-9) This program is designed to prepare the student in the fundamentals of brick masonry, theory and installation of chimneys, fireboxes and fireplaces. The student will get advance training in footing and specifications, foundations and specifications, and theory of building construction. V0025. Union Apprenticeship Exam Preparation (1-9) This class is designed to help the student prepare for the union apprenticeship entrance examination. It includes exercises in mechanical, mathematical and verbal spacial reasoning. Tool identificationing and special problems are included. BUILDING MAINTENANCE COURSES OF INSTRUCTION V0031. Exploring Building Maintenance (1-9) This short term class is taken in conjunction with VO201. exploring Building Trades, for those students interested in Building Maintenance. The student will learn what Building Maintenance is, and will become exposed to the trade through basic practical applications. He will also determine his interest and abilities. V0032. Building Maintenance and Application (1-9) A training program designed to prepare students to become maintenance men able to trouble shoot and repair commercial and/or industrial facilities. He will become proficient in basic carpentry skills, plumbing, and electrical wiring with emphasis on remodeling and/or repair of existing facilities or structures. The program will also provide practice in the use of common hand tools and power machines. (Five 3-hour labs/week.) WELDING The Welding curriculum is designed for the student who wishes to specialize in welding. The various aspects of electric, oxyacteylene and inert processes are included. A pre-vocational curriculum in this area consisting of courses is designed to train students for entry-level skills in welding and fabrication. Special emphasis is placed on certification in vertical-up, over-head arc welding, and C02 welding. COURSES OF INSTRUCTION V0041. Exploring Welding (1-9) A short term class for exploration experiences that will enable the student to determine his interest and ability for the welding trades. Experiences include practical exposure to Oxya-cetylene welding and cutting. Electric Arc welding and MIG and TIG welding. Also basic operation procedures in welding shop power tools. V0042. Oxyacetylene Welding and Cutting Techniques (1-9) This class provides extensive training in the use of welding shop equipment, safety practice, operation of oxyacetylene welding and cutter, and metal characteristics. V0043. Electric Arc Welding Techniques (1-9) This class provides extensive training in the use of welding shop equipment, safety practices, and operation of the Electric Arc Welder. 228 Technology Utah Skills Center North V0044. Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) (1-9) This class provides extensive training in the theory and operation of Inert gas welding, Carbon Arc (CO2) and wire gaswelding and Heli Arc welding of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. V0045. Building Maintenance Welding (1-9) This class is designed to provide basic principles and practices using oxyacetylene welding, and Electric Arc welding for students majoring in Building Maintenance. Also included is training -for operation of welding shop equipment, and safety practices. DRAFTING OCCUPATIONS The Drafting Occupations program is geared to train students for entry level jobs on a junior draftsman level. The courses are broken down into three (3) phases of training designed to meet the goals of the student in this field of study. COURSES OF INSTRUCTION V0051. Exploring Drafting (1-9) A short term class intended to expose students to the occupations in .Drafting. Through hands-on-application the student will become comfortable with the tools of the trades and some of the basic operations; which will enable the student to determine his interest and ability. V0052. Building Trades, Blueprint Reading (1-9) This class will provide principles and application of building trades blueprint reading. Students majoring in any particular building trade will learn blueprint reading specifically for that trade. V0053. Metal Trades Blueprint Reading (1-9) This class will provide principles and application of metal trades blueprint reading. Training will be individualized to meet the student needs whether it be Machine Tool, welding, sheetmetal, etc. V0054. Basic Drafting (1-9) A class in the fundamentals of drafting which will include basic techniques in lettering and the construction of drawings. Orientation and use of drafting equipment will be covered. V0055. Mechanical Drawing (1-9) A continuation of V0054 going into more depth in the subject areas. Includes the application of production drawings, basic structural and pipe drafting. V0056. Fundamentals of Architecture (1-9) This class provides basic training experiences in architecture qualifying the students for entry level employment or further training. V0057. Fundamentals of Electronic Drafting (1-9) This class provides basic training experiences in Electronic Drafting qualifying the student for entry level development or further training. UPHOLSTERY At the end of this training, students will be able to do basic repair, remodeling and upholstering of furniture. COURSES OF INSTRUCTION V0084. Principles of Upholstery (1-9) In this course, theory of furniture repair, upholstering, hand tools, machines, cloth textures, color combination and designing is presented. V0085. Upholstery Practice (1-9) Practical experience in furniture repair, upholstering, remodeling, and machine sewing; and wood finishing. V0086. Advanced Principles of Upholstery (1-9) Introduce theory in the fundamentals of designing modern furniture, period and antique furniture, upholstering and tufting; automotive seat covers, designing and trim work. V0087. Advanced Upholstery Practice (1-9) Practical experience in building and upholstery of modern, period, and antique furniture requiring special tufting work: construction of seat covers, headline and trim work. ELECTRONICS ASSEMBLY This course is designed to provide skill and technical training for individuals entering the occupations involving assembly and repair of electronic goods. COURSES OF INSTRUCTION V0081. Electronics Assembly (1-9) This course presents basic concepts and techniques of electronics assembly line production. The skills and knowledge acquired here are for assembly of electronic, equipment such as computers, movie and TV cameras and TV sets. Training includes wire preparation, soldering, components, symbol identification, color code reading, harness tying, cleaning and repairing circuit boards, schematic reading, safety procedures and use of tools. 229 |
