Show Academic Information to the Admissions Committee which would indicate positive change in circumstances suggesting a high probability of future successful performance. Eligibility—In order to be eligible to represent or participat in student organizations or in any extra-curricular activities, th< college specifies certain minimum standards of eligibility.* To protect students from becoming too involved in extra curricular activities when their scholastic record is not higl enough to warrant the additional expenditure of time and tc assure the institution is appropriately represented, the following eligibility standards are to be met: I. ELIGIBILITY STANDARDS A. Be matriculated, carry and complete 12 or more quartei hours in both the current and previous quarter. 1. This credit is interpreted to mean: any accredited at Weber State College or any accredited college or college or university. 2. When extenuating circumstances exist and i student drops below the minimum requirement: the previous quarter, he/she may make a written appeal to the Eligibility Committee Chairman. B. Maintain a cumulative grade point of 2.0 or better (Should a student repeat a course, both grades will be used in computing the cumulative GPA.) C. Earn a grade point average of 2.0 or better for thd previous quarter. Summer School grades and hours carried will be accepted in raising the GPA and total hours for the previous Spring Quarter. D. Any student placed on academic warning or disciplinary probation will be deemed ineligible. II. SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES CONCERNED A. Student government and other student leadership anc service activities. B. All student organizations, including social and service organizations, sororities and fraternities, ethnic and religious groups, and other similar organizations. C. Music and dramatic events. D. Debate. E. Publication staffs. Academic Information *Those who wish to become candidates for any of the positions in Student Government, or Class, A.M.S., A.W.S. offices, etc., must fulfill the additional requirements of a 2.5 cumulative GPA, as so stated in the Weber State College Studentbody Constitution. 58 F. Chatonelles, Song Leaders, and Rally Men. G. King and Queen, and other similar contests, such as "Miss Weber State," "Ski King and Queen," etc. Before students may represent Weber State College in intercollegiate athletics, they must comply with the eligibility regulations adopted by the Institutional Council of the College, the constitution ind operating code of the BIG SKY Conference, and the NCAA. Any student who participates in any of the activities concerned without meeting all of the criteria for eligibility, including registration for 12 or more quarter hours in the quarter during which the student participates, places himself and his organization in jeopardy. Should his eligibility be challenged and found wanting, his organization may be required to forfeit any win it may have gained during such participation. off III. ELIGIBILITY COMMITTEE The Eligibility Committee, composed of administrators, faculty and students, is administratively appointed to do the following: A. To interpret all rules governing eligibility. B. To determine the eligibility of all participants in organized studentbody activities. IV. STANDARDS AND TOTAL WORK LOAD Students should avoid overloading themselves to a point that their performance suffers. In general they should expect to study two hours for each hour of lecture. Care should be taken to keep the total work load, including outside work, at a reasonable level. No student should plan to work more than 20 hours a week on outside work if he is taking 15 hours of credit. Social Standards—A student attending Weber State College is expected to maintain a high standard of moral conduct. He/she enters college through choice. He/she is not required to attend by law. Forfeiture of the privilege to attend may result from unsatisfactory conduct. Students are expected to demonstrate maturity in their judgments. Appropriate Dress—Appropriate dress is expected for the campus and in all buildings. Use of Liquor—Weber State College does not permit the use of alcoholic beverages either on the campus or at college-sponsored functions off the campus. Any violation of this rule is subject to disciplinary action. Drug Abuse—Use, possession, or distribution of narcotics or illegal drugs on college owned property, except as expressedly 59 |
