Show Arts, Letters and Science — Academic Advisement Arts, Letters and Science — Academic Advisement Students may take teaching majors in all of the fields listed, above except in Applied Physics, Commercial Art, Journalism, Microbiology, Music, Medical Technology, Speech, and Theatre Arts. They may also take a teaching major in Earth Science and' composite teaching majors in Biology, Mathematics and Physical Science, Music, Social Science, and Speech and Theatre Arts. Students may take departmental minors and/or teaching minors in all of the departmental majors listed above except Applied Physics, Commercial Art and Medical Technology. They may also take departmental minors in Anthropology, Military Science, Philosophy and Photography. The School of Arts, Letters and Science works closely with the School of Education in preparing students for teaching majors and minors and composite teaching majors. Students should consult the catalog in departmental sections of the School of Arts, Letters and Science and in the School of Education for specific listings and descriptions of majors and minors. As suggested above, within the School of Arts, Letters and Science a number of programs preparatory for the professions are pro-] vided. These include pre-agriculture, pre-dental, pre-engineering. pre-forestry, pre-law, pre-medicine, pre-pharmacy, pre-range management, and pre-veterinary medicine. A limited number of programs of a terminal, technical and les: than baccalaureate level are offered within the School. Includec are the dental assistants program, the two-year nursing program radiologic technology and respiratory therapy. Opportunity is alsc given students to receive Associate Titles at the conclusion of twc years of study provided the general education requirements anc the appropriate specific requirements are met. Thus, the School o Arts, Letters and Science, with its broad offering and its numerou and varied programs is able to meet the needs of students witl greatly differing interests. ACADEMIC ADVISEMENT The administration of academic advisement is placed unde the Dean of the School of Arts, Letters and Science. The function of advisement are carried out by the Director of Admissions, th< Assistant Dean for General Education, the Coordinator of Guidee Studies, and the Director of Counseling. Meeting the advisement needs of all students is accomplishe through cooperative action involving coordination through th Advisement Office, advisement by faculty within departments, gui dance for special students through Guided Studies, and professions counseling assistance provided by the Counseling Center. An ac 94 iser is appointed for each student in each area to assist him with lis registration schedule and to guide him towards a degree of his hoice or towards a Certificate Program. CULTURAL PROGRAM The Fine Arts Center annually presents a liberal cultural >rogram. Through this program ennobling thoughts and great deas are expressed and communicated by means of the media of ight and sound. The various publics of the campus and community nay receive culture through the fine and performing arts. These irts enrich the campus-community publics. The cultural calendar includes diversified activites, events and >rograms relating to the presentation, performance, execution and sxhibition of major art forms and productions which have substan- ial artistic and cultural significance. Through these numerous offerings, the Center has brought to he campus-community many internationally-and nationally-known elebrities in the areas of the humanities, arts, sciences and public ffairs. These cultural bookings are in addition to the College's »wn numerous and excellent musical and theatrical productions and rt exhibits. It is in this spirit and in these modes of cultural contagions the Center serves as a well-established college-community-cultural- cademic-artistic-dynamic enterprise. GUIDED STUDIES Based on the evidence of low high school grades and/or per- armance on college entrance examinations, a number of applicants ar admission to Weber State College are not sufficiently well repared to perform adequately the academic work required. Some f these applicants are, however, admitted under special provisions. >ee ADMISSIONS—High School Grade Point and American College Test.) The Guided Studies Program at Weber State College is de- gned to assist these students who are admitted with minimal quali- cations and prediction of academic success. It endeavors to litiate them into the college environment and to provide them dth motivation, encouragement, and study skills that are essential )r academic success. This is accomplished through special counsel- lg, academic advisement and special courses of instruction.
