Native Cultures of the New World—Culture history of the American Indian, in North, Middle and South America. Prerequisite: Anthropology 1 or 2, or consent of Instructor. A Su (5) Green, DeBloois 152. Native Cultures of the Pacific—Culture history of the Pacific peoples including Polynesia, Melanesia, Micronesia, and New Guinea. Prerequisite: Anthropology 1 or 2, or consent of Instructor. Anthropological Theory—Historical and theoretical development of the major anthropological schools of thought including 19th century evolutionism, historical particularism, social anthropology, neo-evolution, and cultural ecology. BACCALAUREATE DEGREE REQUIREMENTS The Department of Theatre Arts grants the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees. Students intending to take either must complete 45 to 60 hours of satisfactory work in Theatre Arts according to the specific requirements. No "D" grade in a Theatre Arts course will be approved toward graduation with a major or minor in Theatre Arts. Two types of majors are offered: a departmental major in Theatre Arts, and a composite Speech and Theatre Arts major for prospective secondary education teachers. It is recommended that students take the Bachelor of Arts rather than the Bachelor of Science degree. Theatre Arts Departmental Major—Students majoring in Theatre Arts must complete the following courses: Theatre Arts 10, 13, 30, 40, 51, 60, 62, 63, 66, 141, 142, 143, 153, 170, 190. At least 18 additional hours must be chosen from among the following courses: Theatre Arts 14, 33, 52, 53, 130, 131, 133, 134, 150, 151, 152, 154, 163, 164, 191. Majors in Theatre Arts are required to participate in at least three Weber State Theatre productions each year. This participation must be in at least two aspects of theatre experience. Theatre Arts Departmental Minor—Students minoring in Theatre Arts must complete Theatre Arts 30, 51, 60, 140, 153, 170. The following courses are recommended: Theatre Arts 33, 52, 53, 66, 154, 185, 190. Minors must participate in at least two Weber State Theatre productions before graduation is approved. Students wishing to declare a minor in Theatre Arts should be assigned a minor advisor in the department of Theatre Arts by the beginning of the junior year. Speech and Theatre Arts Teaching Major with Theatre Arts Emphasis—Students taking the composite teaching major in Speech and Theatre Arts with a Theatre Arts emphasis must complete the following courses: Theatre Arts 10, 13, 30, 40, 51, 60, 62, 63, 66, 140, 150, 153, 154, 164, 170, 185, and 190. To complete major requirements, the student should choose at least nine credit hours from the following courses in Theatre Arts: 14, 33, 52, 53, 114, 130, 131, 133, 134, 141, 142, 143, 151, 152, 163, 191. It is recommended that students take as many of the above listed courses as possible. The following Speech courses are required: Speech 11, 14, 15, 21, 30, 71, 75, 112, 150. Speech 185 is recommended. No minor is required of the composite teaching major in Speech and Theatre Arts. Students are required to participate in at least three Weber State Theatre productions each year; this participation must be in at least two aspects of the theatre experience. Students are required to participate in at least one forensic or radio-television experience each year. Speech and Theatre Arts Teaching Major with Speech Emphasis—Students taking the composite teaching major in Speech and Theatre Arts with a Speech emphasis must complete the following courses in Speech: 10, 11, 14, 15, 16, 21, 71, 112, 115, 150, and 185; plus an additional twenty-seven hours including an area of major emphasis. Interpretation: Speech 8, 107, plus nine hours from the following: English 152, 153, 169, 180. Public Address: Speech 23, 110, 121, 123. Radio and Television: Speech 72, 73, 75, 173, 175, 176. The following Theatre Arts courses are required: Theatre Arts 30, 51, 60, 62, 140, 153, 170, and at least nine hours from among the following: Theatre Arts 33, 52, 53, 66, 150, 154, 185, and 190. No minor is required of the composite teaching major in Speech and Theatre Arts. Students are required to participate in at least 2 major projects a year; this 215 |
