Show Business and Economics — Office Administration Business and Economics — Office Administration requirements of the School of Business and Economics (with some exceptions), the student must complete Office Administration 3, 21, 25, 30, 101, 110, 111, 146, 148, 193 and 199. Departmental Minor in Office Administration—A baccalaureate degree candidate may satisfy this minor by completing Office Administration 21, 33, 101, 110" and 111° plus 10 additional hours selected from the following: Office Administration 25, 30, 146, and 148; Accounting 1 and 2; and Economics 5 or 10 ("Those not in shorthand see minor advisor for substitute courses.) The following fields are acceptable for the major and minor in Business Education: Accounting, Economics, and Office Administration. Composite Major in Business Education—This teaching major is recommended for prospective secondary school and junior college business educators and consists of a minimum of 82 quarter hours in the areas listed below. The area of major emphasis can be either accounting or secretarial. The following Business and Office Administration courses are required: Accounting 1, 2, 10, and 54; Banking & Finance 1, 100, 110, or 141 (any one course); Economics 5 and 6; either Economics 49 or Management 30; Management 136 and 160; Marketing 170; Office Administration 3, 101, 110, 111, 21, 25, 30, 33, 146, 148, 151, either 150 or 152, 193, and 199. Those emphasizing Accounting should substitute Accounting 111, 112, and 113 for Office Administration 110, 111 and 150. Teaching Minor in Business Education—A teaching minor in Business Education is available in the area of Typewriting with Accounting, Business Machines, or Shorthand as the other area of emphasis with not less than 24 credit hours. See minor advisor for exact course listings. Courses of Instruction 1. Personal Elementary Typewriting—Development of sustained typing power, control of figures and symbols, improvement of techniques. A speed of at least 30 words per minute should be attained. May be waived by proficiency examination. Credit will not be given to students who have had six months of typing previously. A W S (3) Staff 2. Elementary Typewriting—Continuation of Office Administration 1. Review of keyboard, business letters, tabulated reports, improvement of basic skills, and intensive speed building. For those typing 25 words per minute or faster. Prerequisite: Office Administration 1 or equivalent. A W S (3) Staff 3. Intermediate Typewriting—Manuscripts, special problems in letter arrangement and business forms. Prerequisite: Office Administration 2 or at least 40 words per minute. A W S (3) Staff 6. Machine Shorthand—Introduction to Touch Shorthand keyboard, theory, and speed development with dictation speeds to 60 words per minute or faster. Prerequisite: Office Administration 2 or equivalent, or take concurrently. (Formerly Office Administration 9.) A W S (4) Henrie 7. Machine Shorthand—Continuation of Office Administration 6. Completion of the entire shorthand theory with practice dictation. An entrance speed of at least 40 wpm. Prerequisite: Office Administration 2 and 6 or equivalent. A W S (4) Henrie 10. Hy-Speed Longhand (ABC Shorthand)—A method of fast writing based on the English alphabet; abbreviations, omission, and blending of letters; dictation and transcription. Prerequisite: Office Administration 2 or equivalent. This class continues into Office Administration 12. A W S (3) Henrie 11. Elementary Shorthand—Introduction to theory of Gregg Shorthand system with emphasis upon reading and writing fluency. Not open for credit to students who have had six months of previous shorthand training. Prerequisite: Office Administration 1 or equivalent, or take concurrently. A W S (4) Henrie, Jarrett 12. Elementary Shorthand—Continuation of Office Administration 11. Use of the entire shorthand theory in practice dictation. An entrance speed of at least 50 words per minute is required. Not open for credit to students who have completed two years of shorthand. Prerequisites: Office Administration 2 and 11 or equivalent. A W S (4) Henrie, Jarrett 13. Intermediate Shorthand Dictation—Stenographic shortcuts, abbreviations, phrases and transcription. An entrance speed of at least 70 words per minute is required. Prerequisites: Office Administration 3 and 12 or equivalent. A W S (4) Henrie, Jarrett 21. Business Machines—Practical experience using rotary calculators and ten-key printing calculators in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percents, etc. A W S (2) Staff 25. Office Equipment—Spirit duplicator, mimeograph, transcribing and copying machines, etc. Prerequisite: Office Administration 1 or equivalent. A W (2) O. Brown 30.
