Show Continuing Education — Evening and Off-Campus Continuing Education provides the following programs of study: 1. Regular college courses in all departments of the college in which a student may accumulate credit toward an academic degree; however, not all schools of the College have an evening offering sufficient to meet graduation requirements by attending evening classes only. 2. General education courses to enable the student to partially complete the college area requirements and to provide the adult student a liberal education. 3. Discussion programs to produce a better informed citizenry; 4. Technician and trade preparatory courses leading directly to employment in some of the occupational areas included in the day programs; 5. Courses designed to upgrade employer and/or employee competency; 6. Trade extension programs for: journeymen to provide refresher courses in their chosen occupations, and for apprentices to provide technical information related to their on-the-job expe riences. 7. Hobby and recreational programs to aid adults to obtair leisure time activities and to plan for retirement years. An effort is made to present any course for which there are both a sufficient demand and available facilities. In most cases, minimum of 10 requests from individuals or a minimum guarantee by an organization for a specific course is considered sufficient foi exploratory action on the part of the College. FACULTY All members on the instructional staff are selected for theii outstanding recent experience in education, business, and industryj Most of them are employed during the day in responsible positions in their fields of specialization, and bring to their classes the benefit of current knowledge and practical experience. Courses which will satisfy general education requirements, and specific "major" requirements leading to a baccalaureate degree are offered. In addition, recreational courses are provided for the adult student. EVENING STUDIES DEPARTMENT The Evening Studies Department serves the needs of adults and youth of the Weber State College area who desire courses for personal imporvement or wish to increase their skills for occupational efficiency. It also serves those students who find it expedient to attend evening classes instead of day classes. Some special classes which are within the purview of Continuing Education may be held during daytime hours on campus when the need is established. OFF-CAMPUS STUDIES DEPARTMENT The Off-Campus instructional program is designed to provide credit and non-credit educational opportunities to groups off the campus who wish to pursue a degree program or to improve their vocational and personal competency. Classes are held Monday through Saturday at times consistent with requirements of the requesting group. The College cooperates with the various governmental installations, businesses, and civic groups in planning and presenting specific courses to meet the needs of employees. Travel Study—Travel Study Tours may be arranged for groups who wish to relate themselves and their studies to the United States and to other lands. All persons attending must be regularly enrolled in a class or classes consistent with the objectives of the tour. Jensen, Carl O. Richart, Coordinators Continuing Education provides an arm of the College which :eeps direct communication with community needs both within the mmediate region and on a state level. The primary purpose of this ubdivision is to promote greater utilization of the resources of ligher education for development of the total community. Business, ndustry, government agencies, civic groups and other groups are nade aware of the services available through higher education. Coordinating with the schools of the College the following kinds of ervices are available to aid and enhance community development: 1) Research services, (2) Consultant services, (3) Educational classes nd programs, (4) Conferences, institutes and workshops. 380 381 |
