7, 1867, comments on life in 1st mission, Married Kopenhagen on the 15th My labors for the 3 years 5 ½ months in the mission field may be refered to latter, it is recorded in Signs in part, very unrvisly, will only say that under many trials, and temptations, & sometimes manifesting the folley of youth and mirth, I never transgressed or made any break of the moral love of god. I started without a cent, had no parrants to look to for any help, as they were oposed to me using my time as i did, and the first in the family to imbrace the Gospel, I had only the Lord & good people to rely on, and in the 3 ½ years I did not receive derict from the Office over $15.00 so I can say the Lord apved the way for me most remarkably. Our Company consisted of abt 400 souls several Utah Elders returning and a few local Elders. On the 23rd of June I and a Girl from Veile Ane Kjerstine Zacariesen were Married on bord the Steamship Manhatten on the highsea by President Niels Wilhelmsen. My Wife was born on Nov. 4th -1841. was a Daughter of a Mr. Frederick Lakaniesen and Wife Charlotte Nielson. We arrived in New York 8, 1867, Arrived in New York, over Plains, Indians, 10% died 1 froze on July 4th it was a beautifull day & a glorious sight to see the Land & ships & hear the music & see the hundreds of boats carriing people to & fro. it being the American celebration of Independence. at Night fine fireworks were let off, & we all rejoiced, in deads so far. On the 5 of July went trough Castle of arden, & by train went to Albany, Detroit. by Niagra Falls, where we stoped half day. continued West by Rail & boat to North Plate. 300 miles west of Omaha, here we made stop of 3 weeks, fitting up Wagons Training Cattle much sickness prevailed here, Ive had 13 of the Company died & was burried here. On the 13th of August broke Camp. & started West, each man was provided with a gun which we carried always or had it within reach any minute as the Indians were quite angry & abt 1000 of them. large strong men hovered abt. Camp every day, & had practicaly Cleaned out the plains in 1866. We sufered much sickness, and ere we got trough, every Child under 6 was dead, and several young people, one young man Petersen was shot atidently & died after a weeks sufring. in all one truth or abt 40 was left on the plains, One old Lady froze
