Hand-written diary of James Miller Christensen (name changed from Jens Moller Christensen). Document contains memoirs from 1846 to 1904 and diary entries from 1904 to 1914. Christensen provides information about his childhood in Denmark, conversion to Mormonism, mission service, emigration to the United States, and overland migration to Utah with the Leonard G. Rice Company in 1867. Later memoirs contain information about his experience with plural marriage and advice he received from Brigham Young regarding the practice of the United Order in Moroni, Utah, and handling business affairs. Throughout the account, he provides information detailing his farming and ranching enterprises. In 1904, Christensen records his travel east to preside over the Scandinavian Mission, and, while en-route, he describes his stops at the Louisiana Fair Exposition and Nauvoo, Illiniois. Thereafter, the bulk of the diary contains information pertaining to the day-to-day affairs of presiding over the Scandinavian Mission. |

James Miller Christensen was born in Denmark, converted to Mormonism, and migrated to Utah with the Leonard G. Rice Company in 1867. He settled in Moroni, Utah, where he farmed, ranched, practiced polygamy, and participated in a failed attempt at the United Order. By 1893, Christensen and both of his wives had moved to Salt Lake City. He served three missions to Scandinavia and, during the final, presided over the Scandinavian Mission. |

Show 114, 1907 Oct. 9th Visited a Cosin Henriette Nielsen had a group Photo. Taken, & latter wrote out the History of the Building, & confered with the other Presidents on matters of Interest to Conf.. at ev. attended a pleasant Social & bid goodbye to the beautiful Structure that will always stand a monument of my Labors here in Aalborg 10th Took 9.8 train to Hobro. was asked by The Danish Council to Visit a Sister of his Maried to a Merchant Carl Mikelsen, found him at his Buisness, but his Wife was in Copenhagen. Hh was courtious & pleasant. Visited a Br. Christensen that lived in Town dined there, & took 4:50 train for Randers att meeting there at 8m, full house, Bro. Rasmusen & I were the Speakers, Stayed at the Hall with the Elders. 11th Took Train at 11 for Aarhus. arrived at 11:45 went to P.S. Christiansens for Dinner, done some buisness with him, went to see Cornelias Grave yet in good preservation, visited Christen Rasmusen who had Kept it up now for 25 years, gave him 10 Kroner as an acknolidgement for same Spent ev. with Pres. Jensen & Rasmusen at Bro. P.S. Christiansen, Recd Letter from 115 Pres. A.H. Lund, expresing Satisfaction of my work. & especialy the erection of the Aalborg house, his Home City. this is also my wedding day, with my Wife Petra, who has born me 9 children & been true & faithfull. 12th Recd. Tellegram to release Elder C.C. Nielsen of Aalborg. This caused Corespondance which I attended to. also wrote Pres. A.H. Lund in the p.m. interogated some of the Elders. at ev. att 1st meeting where reports were given of Branches. 27 Babtized since last Conf. & many frinds among the People 13 Att. S. School Conf. at 10. reported over 200 enroled in Conf. many Strangers Children attend. a good program was rendered by the Aarhus school, meeting at 2 p.m. & 7 ev. at The latter the Hall was full. Pres. Rasmusen & I spoke, audience was very attentive 14th Att. Preisthood meeting in the a.m. in The p.m. assisted in arranging Elders. there were unpleasant features, in Aarhus & Veile Branches to be considered. at ev. att Sacrement meeting. during day sent Tellegram to Liverpool to get Elder Chas. C. Nielsen & a companion off. I beeing instructed to releas the former, but beeing not strong desired Company. |
